Update: Hilton is once again extending certificates, as follows:

  • Free Weekend Night Rewards issued through June 30, 2020 have been extended and will now expire July 1, 2022.
  • Free Weekend Night Rewards issued between July 1 – December 31, 2020 expire 24 months from date of issuance.
  • Free Weekend Night Rewards issued between January 1 – December 31, 2021 will expire December 31, 2022.
  • Free Weekend Night Rewards issued between January 1 – December 31, 2022 will expire 12 months from the date of issuance.
  • As was previously announced, all certificates issued through 12/31/22 can be used on any night of the week!

Hilton has also finally made these certificates viewable online, with expiration dates. Unfortunately, you still can’t redeem them online, you need to call Hilton at 800-446-6677 to redeem.

With Hilton, IHG, and Marriott all extending certificates, status, and points expiration, where in the world is Hyatt?!?

Hilton will once again be extending status and benefits due to COVID-19.

  • Points won’t expire until at least 12/31/22. (Normal policy is 12 months of inactivity).
  • 2019 elite status that was to expire on 3/31/20 will be extended until 3/31/23.
  • 2020 elite status that was to expire on 3/31/21 will be extended until 3/31/23.
  • 2021 elite status that was to expire on 3/31/22 will be extended until 3/31/23.
  • All night credits earned in 2021 will rollover for 2022 elite qualification.
  • 2022 elite status can be achieved with fewer nights or points. This means you can earn Silver status with 7 nights, 3 stays, or 17.5K base points, Gold status with 28 nights, 14 stays, or 52,500 Points, or Diamond status with 42 nights, 21 stays, or 84K Points. Gold and diamond status gets free breakfast and more at Hilton hotels. Milestone benefits will award 10K points at 30 nights and another 10K points for every additional 30 nights. You can gift Gold status at 40 nights and diamond status at 70 nights.
  • Free weekend nights from AMEX cards already issued or that will be issued by 12/31/22 will be valid on any day of the week.
  • Bonus Points earned through purchases on all Hilton American Express Cards, that post to the Card Member’s Hilton Honors account between May 1, 2020 through December 31, 2022 will be considered Base Points and will count towards Elite tier qualification and Lifetime Diamond Status. Learn more about elite status here and lifetime diamond status here.
  • Free weekend nights issued before 5/1/20 will be valid until 1/3/22.
  • Free weekend nights issued from 5/1/20-12/31/20 will be valid for 24 months (rather than 12 months).
  • Free weekend nights issued from 1/1/21-12/31/21 will expire on 12/31/22 (rather than 12 months).
  • Free weekend nights issued in 2022 will expire in 12 months.

Your move Hyatt, IHG, and Marriott!

Time for them to extend the weekend nights as well, as plenty people still not traveling

Let’s hope we see an announcement soon

I really hope Marriott extends certs – I have three expiring 1/3/22 – my Hilton one is good until end of ‘22

Is there any luck for anyone to get Hyatt night extended? I read it somewhere, but they refused to me.

“Bonus Points earned through purchases […] will be considered Base Points…”
My $0 AF Hilton AMEX is 3ppd on general spend. Does that mean that of the 3ppd, the 2 bonus points are considered base points? Or all 3 points are are based points? If the latter, then I just need $28,000 of general spend on that card and I get Diamond?

Was this promo in effect for 2021? I contacted their chat support a month ago and they said this ended on December 31, 2020…

Milestone benefits will award 10K points at 30 nights and another 10K points for every additional 30 nights. You mean each additional TEN nights (and 40k bonus at 60 as usual)

Hi can someone answer my questkon?

  7. el

For the weekend nights, do you have to USE them by the exp date, or just BOOK them by the exp date? Thanks.

    • James Solomon

Use by the expiration date. I just ran into the issue this week when trying to book a room with a phone agent

  8. Harry

Where do I go to view them online? Can I see them in the app? Have the expiration dates changed yet?

    • Dan

On their website only. Just login and scroll down.

  9. DoB

IHG has only extended some certificates past the end of 2021. Certificates issued before 2021 have only been extended to the end of 2021 and no further. My unrestricted IHG certificate will probably land in the trash.

    • mark nissel

Just relax. Anything valid until Dec 2021 is being extended .

      • DoB

According to whom? IHG has only announced that certificates issued in 2021 are being extended. Have you heard more?

  10. El

Can you use the free nights at the Hilton Waldorf in yerushalayin these days?

  11. Chaim

Just got my first free night after spending on Hilton business card with expiration of December 2022. Is that a booked by date or stay completion date?

  12. Kc

Dan — what about BMG (be my guest) certificates. Are those also extended?
