Using Chase Points:

You can pay for the ticket with “hybrid points” such as AMEX or Chase points with a card that allows your points to be used at an increased value for airfare in addition to be able to transfer points into airline miles.

If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card you can redeem points for 1.5 cents each towards travel. If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Ink Preferred you can redeem points for 1.25 cents each towards travel.

You can login to your account and redeem Chase points for travel here. The round-trip cost will be 43,274 points with a Sapphire Reserve. That rate include all taxes and you will still earn flight miles as well!

Using AMEX points:

You can login to your account and redeem AMEX points for travel here.

This is bookable for 64,812 points with AMEX in coach. Plus you’ll get back a 35% rebate with the Business Platinum Card or a 25% rebate with the Business Gold Card, dropping the total needed to as low as 42,127 points. That includes all taxes and you can still earn miles for flying!

Is El Al waiving all change fees? If yes, are they also waiving all changes fees if booked through Chase travel? Thank you

    • Dan

Note that the difference in fare still applies.

I don’t know why, but Chase travel search is always more expensive than Amex.

      • Nick

        NYC/TLV 6/23/21 – 7/4/21 American Airline

        • Dan

Looks like AMEX has a discounted insider fare for those dates.
Chase is the same price as AA.com and Priceline.

          • Nick

cool. not the first time I’m seeing this (other time was also AA)

          • Dan

Yup, AMEX can have some nice insider discounts.

  7. runnergirl

If you purchase the trip insurance through Priceline and can’t get into the country do you think your ticket would be fully refundable?

  8. Toronto

Are there any such deals to/from Toronto?

  9. Lop

What’s AA cancellation policy? I booked for summer but now ElAl is much cheaper 🙁

      • Lop

Oh well. Was hoping to refund AA and purchase LY

        • Dan

Could still happen if AA cancels their flight. But that won’t happen until closer in.

    Thank you

  12. Maggie Newberger

Is this one way? Every time I put in my info they give me a price that is 582 going and another 582 coming back. What is going on?

    • Dan

No. See title. You need to book round-trip.

  13. bruce

Do free changes on AA or ElAl mean free name changes too?

  14. manny

if i cancel aa will i get credit?

  15. Izzy

I attempted to book on El Al’s website. When I got to the payment page and entered my CC info, the icon spun and spun and then returned me to the home page. I never received confirmation but my credit card is showing a $649 charge from El Al.

Does that mean I got the ticket? There’s no phone number to call or seemingly any other way to reach them.

  16. Ag

Dan, I just got an email from birthright that they will resume operation in July. Do you think we can add tart scheduling our private trip to israel?

  17. marko

any tips on getting out of a AA summer reservation for a full refund. they are offering me credit only 🙁

    • Dan

Wait and see if they cancel or change their flight time.

  18. AnotherJoe

I got Delta for $692 for Shavous (booked back in Nov/Dec when the vaccines were first announced effective) but it doesn’t look like that will be happening. I assume if Delta cancels the flight (they already cancelled one of their JFK flights that day and re-booked me on the other) I get a full refund otherwise I’m stuck with a credit? Would love a full refund so I can re-book for the summer (or succos, or whenever Israel decides to re-open) using the airline with the best fare…

    • Dan

If they changed your flight time you can call them for a full refund.

      • bruce

are these tickets transferrable to another name if I decide to cancel?

  19. Eli

Thanks Dan! Really appreciate your help, booked elal mid June for $649.

  22. nz

it can be booked through the airline too? don’t see any of these rates when searching-on priceline or through the airline

  23. Paul

    Dan,
Thanks! I got 2 tickets for $649! I want to add another child to my flights, even at the regular price. But it doesn’t let me book a flight for a child.
How do I book a flight for a minor to join me through Chase?

  24. Moshe hexgone

Thanks Dan got round trip to Israel for 692 from delta no stop over

  25. Nechama Lipson
