American has yet another fantastic sale from Tel Aviv to the US as they continue their battle for market share as the new entrant in the market.

A Friday night stay is required.

The cheapest fares are basic economy, but these are basic plus bag fares that include a free carry-on bag, a free checked bag, full flight miles, and full loyalty points for elite status.

Basic economy flights can be changed for free for travel originating in the Middle East (You can see this under “Travel flexibility” by clicking on “New international travel originating outside of North or South America”), though the difference in fare will still be owed.

You can buy up to regular economy for an extra $50 round-trip, which will allow you to assign seats without an extra charge. It may be cheaper to purchase basic economy and pay for assigned seats. Elite members can select preferred or main cabin extra seats even on basic economy, and they can apply systemwide upgrades.

These fares are on sale for flights originating in Israel only.

Using Chase Points:

You can pay for the ticket with “hybrid points” such as AMEX or Chase points with a card that allows your points to be used at an increased value for airfare in addition to be able to transfer points into airline miles.

If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card you can redeem points for 1.5 cents each towards travel. If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Ink Preferred you can redeem points for 1.25 cents each towards travel.

You can login to your account and redeem Chase points for travel here. The round-trip cost will be 31,395 points with a Sapphire Reserve. That rate include all taxes and you will still earn flight miles as well!

Using AMEX points:

You can login to your account and redeem AMEX points for travel here.

This is bookable in regular economy for 50,693 points with AMEX. Plus you’ll get back a 35% rebate with the Business Platinum Card or a 25% rebate with the Business Gold Card, dropping the total needed to as low as 32,950 points. That includes all taxes and you can still earn miles for flying!

Hope to see deals like this from USA to TLV RT. Thanks for posting Dan!

    • united

Doesn’t seem that United sees a need to battle for share… Just checked for award tickets EWR-TLV, and in the next 11 months, there are only 3 dates that have saver award space (2 in June and 1 in Feb)! When I log in with an account that has status, more dates are available, but that doesn’t help when you’re trying to book using partner miles…
Soon we’re gonna see smoking hot deal on DD, that United opened up 2 seats in coach for saver awards

  2. Dan\'s the Man

I know airlines don’t like like when you don’t take a leg of a trip (skipplagged) – how about if you just “miss” your return flight?

      • Dav.

But you won’t get the miles earned even for the first leg

          • Dav.

Interesting. Always knew that that’s the case.

If I make a reservation for an adult with few kids , can the adult show up for the return without the kids and still be valid ?

          • Dav.

@dan would you know the answer to my question about the adult taking the return without the kids ?

          • Dan

            That’s fine.

  3. Fafa123

Want to jump on this but wondering if you buy through the portal (chase or Amex) will they allow you to change for free? Will they put any conditions on the tickets (been burned before when had to fly the same class/bucket and those seats were not available)?

  4. Israel Traveler

Do not recommend booking the basic fare. Spend $50 now, you will save yourself far more in the future.

  5. moshe

tempted to buy this for my kid’s return trip even though have no use for NYC-TLV leg. any way to get some value out of it?

    • Dan

If there’s a schedule change or delay you can get a refund for that leg.

    • Shimshi

I got future flight credit for cancelling the second leg

      • Dav.

How did you do that ? Was there any schedule changes ?

  6. Malka

Doesn’t seem to be available RT 9/21, return 10/26

  7. KMC

Great deal! Booked for 1 just to get a few hours of lounge access 😉
On a related note, why doesn’t American establish a direct to Tlv from Philly? Doesn’t AA have a big presence there? Isn’t it a no Brainer for lakewooders and even us Baltimoreans? There has got to be enough demand for 2-3 weekly flights

  8. tari

are award tickets also on sale?

  9. Moishe

How long does it take for Amex to refund the 35% points?

  10. dee

Can this be booked thru venture x capital one portal?

  11. tate

What if I need a return date which is not posted since is in april 23

    • Dan

Airlines don’t sell tickets that far out.

  12. dealjew

if your trying to book from israel you will have to use a US site to find these prices. You can fing it on matrix setting the sales city to New york. When the sales city is TLV the flights are far more expensive.

  13. CP

Hi, I cant seem to find this deal! When I click on the priceline or orbitz links, it takes me to their home page. I enter in the dates above, but they don’t give me this American sale.
    Can anyone help asap please?

    • Dan

Seats on each date are limited. Try nearby dates.

  14. ben

Would there be a fee if i wanted to change the dates later on for a flight booked with CSR points?

    • Dan

There shouldn’t be, but with basic economy it may be tricky to get them to properly apply the waiver so you may want to upgrade to economy to avoid problems.

  15. Joel

Is it dead ? I can’t seem to find any dates anymore

    • Dan

Still live, but some dates have sold out.

      • Joel

Do you have an example from dated still working ?

        • Dan

First one I tried randomly, November 3-10

          • Joel

November 3-10 shows for me $886 on Google flights with AA

          • Dan

I never mentioned Google Flights in this post. It’s far from a be all and end all search engine.

          • Joel

Wow !! Always thought its a good way to search . is there a replacement for that ?

Which site did you use to get this price ?

          • Dan

It is decent, but it’s far from perfect.
Any of the sites mentioned in this post should pull up the fare.
I compiled dates using ITA with NYC as the sales city.

          • Joel

So ita matrix is better then goggle flight even for simple searches ?

I’m looking to get the $457 price for August 18 as outbound and as late as possible for the return. So far only had luck finding the $497 price .

          • Joel

            Sorry . I meant August 22

  16. Yossi

If I buy a basic economy seat I can cancel for future credit ? So the only thing the $50 really gets me is earlier boarding & the ability to choose a seat ?

    • Dan

      Yes.
Correct, though some agents don’t know about the international basic eco exemption, so buying up will also avoid having to find a competent agent.

      • Yossi

it may be worth the $50 regardless , as the cost to buy seats are higher from the basic economy fare so it may be self-defeating ….

  17. Yon

It doesn’t work by me is it a special link?

  18. MoG

Re:seats, just got off AA146 in tlv (oct’s AA $500 tix). The entire front section of economy, rows 17-24, was all chareidim that presumably didnt pay for seats and were given/allocated seats w/their kids. Looked like no one paid for any of those seats.
But they didnt do a good job putting families together but the yiddushu kups worked it out on the plane. Tons of ‘you switch here’ ‘you go there’ so families sat together and the bochrim had their own area. BH.

  19. Motti

You can select basic economy with amex at checkout

    • Dan

Fascinating. Did not know AMEX books basic tickets any more.

  20. sol

is it still available? can’t seem to find it
