Earlier this year we broke the news that you would be able to earn Alaska miles when flying El Al.

Alaska miles are far more valuable than Matmid points, making that a great option.

You can now register here to get double Alaska miles when you fly on El Al nonstop between San Francisco and Tel Aviv.

Registration is required by 12/15/19 and the double miles will apply to flights from 10/15/19 through 6/30/20.

You can call El Al to give them your Alaska Airlines mileage number to accumulate Alaska miles for your El Al flight instead of Matmid points.

You will be able to redeem Alaska miles for El Al flights in the future, but those rates have not yet been announced.

You can earn Alaska miles on El Al flights as follows:

An El Al coach class flight from San Francisco to Tel Aviv with this deal costs $798 in U class. You would earn 7,422 miles for this discounted coach ticket (25% of miles flown x 2).

An El Al premium economy class flight from San Francisco to Tel Aviv from January 6-16 costs $2,398 in P class. You would earn 17,813 miles for this discounted premium economy ticket (60% of miles flown x 2).

An El Al business class flight from San Francisco to Tel Aviv from January 6-16 costs $4,708 in J class. You would earn 48,243 miles for this business class ticket (100% of miles flown x 2+125% bonus). That’s nearly enough for the 50K miles needed for an award ticket in Cathay Pacific business class between North America and Asia with a free stopover in Hong Kong!

You can also earn Alaska miles from cards like the Alaska Airlines Visa® Business credit card from Bank of America that currently has a highest ever signup bonus of 40,000 miles. Read more about the offer and the best uses of Alaska miles here.

“Alaska miles are far more valuable than Matmid points, making that a great option.”

Is that true even in U class? And what about the base 25% without the bonus?
