Update: There are now 3 business saver award seats left on this flight.

Hawaiian Airlines flies the A330-200 nonstop between JFK and Honolulu. The westbound flight clocks in at 11 hours and 25 minutes. That’s over an hour longer than a flight from JFK to Tel Aviv!

Finding nonstop first class saver award space between NYC and Hawaii is nearly impossible these days. Most dates will set you back a whopping 130K Hawaiian miles each way, making this a good route for hybrid points.

However if you want to spend Thanksgiving in Hawaii, there are 5 saver award seats this Thursday from JFK to Honolulu for just 40K miles one-way! You can read more about the seat here.

You can transfer points from AMEX to Hawaiian instantly to book this, but act fast! You’ll need to login to a Hawaiian Airlines mileage account to search for award space here.

It’s gonna’ be a tough call deciding between a main cabin standard award for 40K miles and a first class saver award for 40K miles 😀

You can use miles to fly home, but good luck finding first class award space again! If you have a good deal of perseverance and Citi points, you can try booking coach tickets home for 7.5K miles each on United.

Will you book this flight?

My love of Hawaii began 13 years ago when I posted and grabbed a deal paying just $87 for airfare and hotel.  Since then I’ve been lucky enough to spend several months between the stunning islands, which each offer a unique and wonderful experience.  You can’t go wrong with any of them, there are just 2 things is to be careful of.

Always a good day in Maui #MauiNoKaOi

1. Don’t get stuck in Honolulu. I’ve heard from too many people who spent an entire week and never left the city limits.  That’s just a shame, they may as well have gone to Miami Beach.  While I prefer The Big Island, Kauai, and Maui to Oahu, there is still plenty to see and experience on Oahu as long as you leave Honolulu behind.
2. Don’t try to “do” several islands in a week. If you just have 4-7 days of vacation then you should stick to one island. There will be plenty to do to keep you busy and it will allow for some time to relax. There’s no need to add the stress of interisland travel just for the sake of “doing” another island. With 9 days or more to play with, it does make sense to experience more than 1 island.

As for which island is best, read on and decide for yourself!  If you ask 5 people you’ll probably get 6 different answers 😀

  2. Hawaii

I searched JFK to HNL on 11/28. Response:
Sorry! The Origin/Destination combination you have requested is not valid. Please try again.

    • Dan

Use the award search link in the post. Still working fine.

If I wasn’t already going to Israel I would do it in a second!

  4. Zagguru

You can actually fly to another island with a connection in HNL for the same 40k

  5. Been There Done That

Only down side is that Hawaiian Airlines does not offer Kosher meals! So you should plan to bring food with you for the long flight.

    • Dan

Kosher airplane meals are gross. Bring your own food double wrapped and see if they’ll warm it up for you.
