The Chase Ink Business Cash Card is one of the most lucrative Chase cards out there thanks to its ability to earn 5 points per dollar spent. Best of all, the card has a highest ever signup bonus and no annual fee.

Signup offer:

The Ink Cash card currently offers a signup bonus of $750 in the form of 75,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $7,500 within 3 months. The signup bonus is marketed as $750, but it will actually come in the form of 75,000 points which are worth $1,125-$1,500 when points are transferred into miles with the help of someone in your household having a Chase Sapphire PreferredChase Sapphire Reserveor Chase Ink Business Preferred.

If you spend $7,500 on gift cards at office supply stores you would have 112,500 points, potentially worth $1,688-$2,250!

Spending Categories:

Likewise, the Ink Cash card card is marketed as earning 5% and 2% cashback in bonus categories, but it actually earns 5 or 2 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent. As each point can be worth 1.5-2 cents each, that means you’ll actually be earning an effective 7.5-10% back on the 5 point categories and 3-4% back on the 2 point categories.

You can use a card like the Chase Ink Unlimited to earn 1.5 points per dollar everywhere (also marketed as 1.5% back, but this card also actually earns more valuable points), but that card doesn’t have any special bonus categories.

Currently you can also still get 0% APR on purchases for 12 months on both the Ink Cash card and the Chase Ink Unlimited card.

Earning 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on all of your Amazon purchases is pretty sweet! I accomplish that by using my Ink Cash card to buy Amazon gift cards from Office Max, Office Depot, or Staples and then saving the gift cards to my Amazon account where they stack together and never expire. Personally I view that as getting 10% back on my Amazon spending, which makes Ink Cash much stronger than using Amazon’s own credit card for Amazon purchases.

Here is where you can earn 2 points per dollar on up to $25K in annual spending on the Ink Cash card:

  • Gas stations
  • Restaurants

Here is where you can earn 5 points per dollar on up to $25K in annual spending on the Ink Cash card:

  • Charges made directly with all cell phone service providers (AT&T, Boost, Cricket, Google Fi, Republic, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, Virgin Mobile, etc)
  • Charges made directly with all telecom, TV, and Internet providers
  • Charges made with streaming services, like Hulu, Netflix, SiriusXM, Sling, Spotify, Tivo, and Vudu
  • Charges from Godaddy.com
  • Charges from Microsoft OneDrive
  • Charges made in-store or online at office supply stores, like Office Depot, Office Max, and Staples.

Best of all though, you can buy gift cards for hundreds of other stores in office supply stores and on Staples.com. Office supply stores often have sales on gift cards so that you can save even more.

Office supply stores also sell Visa and Mastercard gift cards that can be used anywhere. Typically a $200 gift card costs $206.95, which would earn 1,035 points. Those points are worth much more than the $6.95 fee. However those stores also  often run promotions that I write about when you can buy the Visa or Mastercard gift cards without paying fees such as this one from Office Depot and this one from Staples.

You can also buy a $300 Visa gift card from Staples.com for $308.95. The 1,545 points you’ll earn from the purchase are worth between $23.17 (at a value of 1.5 cents per point) and $30.84 (at a value of 2 cents per point).

You can use these gift cards for purchases anywhere, while earning 5 points per dollar!

These are the gift cards that I’ve found at my local stores. If you find more please post a comment!

Charitable donation:

Your local school or charity will be more than happy to accept donations of Amazon gift cards for supplies or any other useful gift cards for chinese auctions, raffles, fundraisers, etc. They will give you a tax deductible receipt for the full face value-the price you paid for the gift cards. And at the same time you’ll earn 5 points per dollar. So while doing good you can still get a nice chunk of points and you’ll save on your taxes!

Cash back on top of points:

Chase Ink cards such as Chase Ink Cash, Chase Ink Unlimited, and Chase Ink Preferred are also eligible for additional cash back via Visa Savings Edge.

That means you can earn points plus cash back at Chevron, Sheetz, AutoZone, Texaco, Boost Mobilem Alamo, National, MGM hotels, Lenovo, Wyndham hotels, and more.

Business card information, benefits, signup rules, and 5/24:

Chase Ink cards are business cards, but you may already have a business that needs a card to keep track of expenses. For example if your name is Joe Smith and you sell items online, or if you have any other side business and want a credit card to better keep track of business expenditures you can open a business credit card for “Joe Smith” as the business. You don’t need to file any messy government paperwork to be allowed to do that. Just be sure to select “Sole Proprietorship” as the business type and just use your social security number in the Tax Identification Number field.

It’s important to just write your own name as the business name if you are just applying for your own small business as a Sole Proprietorship that doesn’t have any business paperwork.

If you’re like me and you run more than one business, you can signup for multiple of the same card for each business to manage each businesses expenses separately.

You can receive a signup bonus on each type of Ink card once every 24 months for each business that you manage.

All Chase cards appear to be subject to 5/24 restrictions. That means it will be hard to get approved if you have been approved for 5 or more consumer credit cards in the past 24 months. Read more about that here.

However, it’s important to note that business cards from most banks, including Chase business cards, do not get added to your 5/24 count of recently opened cards. That’s because business cards from most banks don’t show up on your personal credit report and the 5/24 count is based off of your personal credit report. That means that applying for Chase Ink cards won’t “hurt” your 5/24 count.

Another benefit of the card not reporting on your personal credit report is that when you spend money on personal cards your credit score will be hurt even if you pay your bill on time. A whopping 30% of your credit score is based on credit utilization. You can pay off your card bill before your statement is generated to avoid that, but that takes effort and laying out money well before you have to. Additionally it’s good to have the statement close with a couple dollars to show the card is active and being paid every month. On an business cards from banks like AMEX and Chase it’s just not reported, so you can wait until the money is due without it having a negative effect on your score. That also means if you close the card, it won’t have an effect on your credit score.

While carrying balances on consumer cards can have a very harmful effect on your credit score, because the Ink cards are business cards, those balances won’t hurt your credit score! That makes the 0% APR on purchases for 12 months on a business card a very strong offer.

Cash back or miles?

You can cash out your points for 1% cash back. I hope that you won’t do that.

If you, an authorized user, or anyone in your household have or will get a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserveor Chase Ink Business Preferred your points will be more valuable.

All 3 of those cards allow points from all of the Chase cards in your household to be transferred into airline miles or hotel points.

The Sapphire Preferred and Ink Preferred cards allow you and anyone in your household to use points at a value of 1.25 cents each towards travel.

The Sapphire Reserve card allows you and anyone in your household to use points at a value of 1.5 cents each towards travel.

The Ink Cash card can’t transfer points directly into miles, but Chase allows you to transfer points to cards where they can be transferred into miles or redeemed for a greater value. My goal is to receive a value of 2 cents per point via transfers to miles and that makes the 2 point categories worth 4% back and the 5 point categories worth 10% back.

Pay yourself back:

Back in May, Chase added the ability to pay yourself back and redeem your Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve Ultimate Rewards points to offset any dining, grocery store, or home improvement purchases at a rate of 1.25 or 1.5 cents per point through 9/30. That has now been extended through at least 4/30/21.

Chase also added the feature to Ink Preferred cards as well for advertising and shipping.

Chase tells me that Pay Yourself Back will be a permanent feature of the Ultimate Rewards program, and that they will add more cards and change the categories for the program in the future. This adds a ton of value to the Ultimate Rewards program as you can buy anything from those stores, even gift cards to other stores, and make them free by redeeming points at a value of 1.25 or 1.5 cents each. The ability to get that kind of value from your points even when you’re not traveling is outstanding.

A great feature of the program is that you keep the original points that the purchase earned, even though you paid yourself back for the purchase. That means your points will be worth even more than 1.25 or 1.5 cents each!

The great thing about Chase Ultimate Rewards is how versatile and valuable they are:

Chase points are effectively a “hybrid” currency. You can cash them out for 1 cent each. You can use them for paid travel at a value of 1.25 or 1.5 cents each. Or you can transfer them into airline miles or hotel points when those programs offer more value. There’s no reason to transfer those points to an airline or hotel program where they will be stuck and can be devalued. You should only transfer them on demand when you can get a great value for the transfer.

The fixed value is excellent and doesn’t require hunting down award space, but those points can be much more valuable by transferring them into airline miles or hotel points.

  • If I want to stay in a 5 star Park Hyatt in the Maldives, Melbourne, NYC, ParisSydney, or Tokyo that would cost over $1,000/night, I can instantly transfer 30K points to Hyatt to do that, a value of 3 to 6 cents per point. If you earn 5 points per dollar and each points is worth 5%, that’s like getting a 25% rebate on your purchase!
  • If I need a one-way flight from Cleveland (or Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Montreal, Orlando, Pittsburgh, Toronto, etc) to NYC that can cost $500 each way, I can instantly transfer 7.5K points to British Airways to book a short-haul on American with no last minute booking fees. Or if American doesn’t have availability I can instantly transfer 10K points to United for their short-haul award. That’s a value of up to 7 cents per point.
  • If I want to stay in a non-chain hotel that costs $300/night and don’t want to pay cash, I can redeem 20K points for the room thanks to my Sapphire Reserve card’s minimum redemption value of 1.5 cents per point.
  • If I want to fly in a $25,000 ANA First Class Suite round-trip from the US to Tokyo, I can instantly transfer 110K or 120K points to Virgin Atlantic. That’s a value of up to 23 cents per point.
  • If I want to book a $2,285 business class ticket on Air Canada to Tel Aviv I can redeem 152K points for the flight thanks to my Sapphire Reserve card’s minimum redemption value of 1.5 cents per point. Plus I’ll earn 25K United miles as it’s considered a paid flight.
  • And thousands of other possibilities from Singapore couples suites to booking Southwest awards with 2 free bags and free cancellations, to stealing 2nd base in middle of an MLB game.

Chase 1:1 transfer partners include:

  • United (Star Alliance)
  • Singapore (Star Alliance)
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue (Skyteam)
  • British Airways (OneWorld)
  • Aer Lingus (OneWorld)
  • Iberia (OneWorld)
  • JetBlue
  • Southwest
  • Virgin Atlantic
  • Hyatt
  • IHG

By far one of my most valuable cards and one of the main reasons I stick with chase despite the horrific phone customer service.
    Great educational post.

    • Dan

Yup, one of the most valuable cards out there.
No annual fee and a sweet signup bonus is the icing on the cake.

Haven’t had any customer service issues though.

      • HY

Never had a problem with Customer Service

      • Meir

        Hi Dan,

Thank for all your posts, they are amazing info.
        1. Does it make sense to apply for the ink cash & the ink preferred just for the bonus points? Even I really don’t spend a lot. FYI I do have now the sapphire reserve and freedom unlimited.

    • m

i had very good customer service by chase

  2. zow

Staples in-store currently advertising 25% off Safeway, among others. But no Safeway cards in my Boston-Area store…probably find them on the Left Coast.

  3. Jojo

For all other purchases it will be 1 point per dollar so effectively it’s better with freedom unlimited for day to do purchases.

    • Dan

Correct, unless you use a prepaid Visa earning 5x for everyday purchases. Or use store gift cards.

  4. KEG

Aside from the Amazon 5% back, is there a reason to get this card if I already have the Chase Ink Preferred?

    • Dan

      1. 5 points per dollar is much more than 5% back.
      2. Read the post to see where else you earn 5 points per dollar.

      • Itchakadoozie

This would app,y to Target and not using my 5% off target card in place of gift cards, correct?

      • izzy

it has a potential , provided that you own a sapphire reserve cc and you transfer the points for travel purposes , otherwise it has the same exact value

        • Dan

False. Sapphire Preferred and Ink Preferred also work to increase the value.

  5. Ness

I downgraded my Biz Ink (annual fee) card to a non-AF card, called 521 or something. Does that earn 5 points per D on Amazon?

    • Dan

There is Ink Preferred ($95), Ink Cash ($0), and Ink Unlimited ($0).
It sounds like you have the Ink Cash card, which is the one in this post. You earn 5x by buying Amazon gift cards at Office Max/Depot or Staples.

  6. Joel

Where in the terms and conditions does it state that you earn 5% at Amazon??

    • Dan

As the post says, you earn 5 points per dollar at office supply stores. Those stores sell Amazon gift cards that you can save to your Amazon account and stack together for future purchases.

  7. HY

You didn’t discuss downside of using giftcard. Purchase protection is always a must have for me, return protection can be useful, and other benefits which you miss out on

      • Dan

Amazon’s own credit cards don’t have return protection…

Either way, those protections are valuable on some higher end items, but for the vast majority of my purchases I’d rather earn the extra points.

    • Em

When purchasing on Amazon I always feel protected. They’ll make sure to take care of you either way. Regarding buying gift cards for other stores you have a point.

  8. zack

How do you get 2 cents out of each mile? is that just with a good redemption?

  9. aaron b

I have the card but am not getting the 5 chase points per dollar spent on amazon what am i doing wrong?

    • Dan

As the post says, you earn 5 points per dollar at office supply stores. Those stores sell Amazon gift cards that you can save to your Amazon account and stack together for future purchases.

  10. robert

“You can receive a signup bonus on each type of Ink card once every 24 months for each business that you manage.”
Doesn’t say anything about 24 months in offer terms.

    • Dan

It’s buried in the fine print when you click on apply.
That being said, if you are approved you should get the bonus either way.

      • Sam

Are you saying I can sign up for two different ink cards for the same business, and still get the bonus on both?

    • wishful

Does this mean if I own an Ink card for 24 months, I’m now eligible to receive the bonus again by simply spending the $3k in 3 months (ie. months 25, 26, 27)?

        • Joe

Would they let you do that being you have one open?
If you have to close the current account. Do you have to wait any specific amount of time?

  11. ira

where is 5 points per dollar at amazon ? i only seem to be getting 1 point since forever

    • Dan

Please read the post and previous comments.

  12. Chaim

Applied online and got denied, can i try somewhere else ?

    • Dave

How many places you wanna try at?? Call Recon?

      800-453-9719

  13. Ramen

When purchased gift cards, is it possible for people to somehow hack the numbers and use your gift card? If so, is there anyway to get the money back?

    • Dan

Gift cards purchased from office supply stores have PINs and are secure. They are not like buying 2nd hand gift cards.

Plus, stores like Amazon allow you to bank the gift cards in your account where they are protected.

  14. RG

If I got the ink preferred with sign up bonus a year ago will I be able to get the signup bonus on the Ink cash?

  15. Ben

I still have two of the Ink Business Plus which gives 5X points up to $50,000.00. Would you agree it’s worth holding on to them as Ink Cash is capped at $20,000.00?

    • Dan

      Ink Cash is $25K/year.

How much do you spend on 5x categories per year?

      • Ben

Actually it depends, is the $25,000 cap on all 5X categories such as phones etc, or on each category. I probably spend is Staples about $20-25,000 yearly alone.

  16. jordan

Can i downgrade a Chase ink prefered to a chase ink cash

    • Dan

Yes, but you would lose out on the signup bonus then.

      • moshe

even if i got the signup bonus already?

  17. boondash

thanks for the info really helpful! you wrote that with the sapphire preferred card you can redeem 500 points for 750 towards travel how do i do that?

  18. Joetraveller

Does the chase portal offer identical pricing and options for airline travel as if I were instead purchasing directly with google flights or other OTAs?

    • Dan

It’s powered by Expedia, so it should be the same.

  19. J

I evaluate The Chase points for 1.25×5=6.5 so I will rather go with the simply cash back from Amex that has a 50K Cap (instead of 25 Cap) and only earn 5% cashback.

    • Dan

That’s a fine option, but you lose out on the valuable hybrid flexibility that Chase points offer for cashback, paid travel, or transfers to miles.

  20. Homebody

Once points are transferred to the Sapphire reserve/preferred, Ink preferred, can the points no longer be cashed out for cash?
I’m not much of a traveller, so trying to think what other value I can get by transferring the points and making them worth more

    • Dan

They can still be cashed out.
Do you or your family never travel?

  21. Zal

    Hi Dan,

I have an old ink plus, that has a cap for 5% at 50K.

Wondering if it’s worth the $95 AF.

    I usually don’t get to 25k.

Are there any other benefits to having the ink plus?

And can I downgrade to the ink cash no AF, or would that require a new application and credit pull?

    Thanks!

    • Dan

      -$50K cap
      -No forex fees
-2X Hotel category instead of dining.

You can change Ink Plus to Ink Cash, Preferred, or Unlimited, but you can’t change back to Ink Plus. You won’t get any signup bonus points though, so you may just want to apply for a new Ink card or 2 first and then downgrade.

  22. J

Or can i open 2 ink cash back cards on the same business? I should have a total of 50k cap

    • Dan

You can, though it can be difficult to get 2 of the same card for the same business.

  23. Yf

    Thanks for the post!
I’m considering between this card and the ink business preferred.
Although the preferred has a $95 AF but for that you get additional 30k points which is worth $300-$450
Interesting, Why do they name it Cash Back if you receive UR like the preferred?

  24. dave

if I downgrade me preferred for an INK cash, can I still apply for the card and get sign up bonus?

  25. yungermanchik

if i dont have any business at all(not even selling on amazon) am i allowed to get this card?

    • Dan

      Sell anything on eBay?
You’re going to need to have some sort of hobby/business to get a business card.

      • yungermanchik

when i got a lowes business card (dont ask why) in lowes, they said i dont really need any business and i should just put my name as the business name

      • Patricia

I have a rental property but have very little expenses. In order to get the minimum spend to hit the bonus, do all the expenses need to be related to the business? what about the expenses after the MS? are there any tax implications if doing this?
        Thank you!

      • Chaim

So I can sell an old book or two for a few dollars on ebay/Amazon once a year, and still qualify for the Ink card?

  26. jacob

Aren’t you getting the same 5% by amazon with the Amex amazon card? without having to buy gift cards?

    • Dan

5 Chase points are worth much more than 5%. When I use them I average 10%.

  27. Moishe

    Hi Dan.
Is it worth to open a business credit card to do balance transfer from a high APR on a personal credit card?
Second q. I opened a Wells Fargo credit card thinking also to do balance transfer and they gave me $1500 max. I spoke to recon 2 times and they say since you are new to us we need to build a relation. Does it sound right?
Thanks for your hard work on helping all of us.

  28. yanky

in your points expiration post when you write ba points need 1 point redeemed to extend expiration do member to member transfers under the same household account extend expiration?

  29. Lyla Liberman

Staples sells shell gcs which are great to use in combo with S&S/giant gaspoints

  30. esther

sorry sorry.. just a bit confused.
i’m an avid amazon shopper.. let’s say i but a $500 amazon gift card at staples. get 2500 points. Apply the gift card to my amazon account. Per your post “Those stores sell Amazon gift cards that you can save to your Amazon account and stack together for future purchases.Personally I view that as getting 10% back on my Amazon spending”
Do you get points when you use ur amazon gift card balance?? how are you figuring 10% on amazon spending? (i normally use the amazon card for 5% back)

    • Dan

You get 5 points per dollar when you buy the gift cards at an office supply store.
Those points are worth 1.5-2 cents each.

      • Neil

u can convert these via chase reserve to 7.5 points, ie 1.5 cents, how do u figure 2 cents?

  31. S

I actually don’t value these specific spending categories very highly (I don’t spend much on Amazon), and although the 0% apr in this case is highly valuable, for me it’s not.
In my opinion, this card and the ink business unlimited is worth it for the 50k UR points with no annual fee. Other than the longtime Sapphire Preferred offer, that has since changed, this seems like the highest value of points you can get on a no annual fee card.

  32. S

So the rumors never panned out?
    Do you expect them to?
Do you think theh may offer a different benefit to outweigh the possible cutting of 0% APR?

    • Dan

The 0% APR on balance transfers is dead. But they kept it alive for purchases.

  33. Jablinski

Can someone have more than one Ink Cash cards?

  34. Af

How does the chase ink cash compare to the Bonvoy business card in terms of earning Marriott points per dollar spent? And can the Marriott points transferred from chase be redeemed for all airlines and hotels partnered with Bonvoy?

    • Dan

Chase points transfer to Marriott at a 1:1 ratio. Typically you’ll do better using Chase points to pay for Marriott hotels directly.

  35. M

@Dan Super elementary/random question: If I could earn 2.4% on my savings – what is the detriment to me using this cards, throwing the money in savings and paying it off before the interest starts accruing? I am super organized with my money so I do not think I am at risk of not having the cash and I assume my credit score will recover once the balance is paid in full. Am I missing something?

      • M

So in addition to all the points a lot of these card will give you an interest free loan for all purchases for a year and so long as you are responsible to you can earn interest on the money that you would have used to pay the bill..seems like an underrated benefit…if someone spends $50k a year they can get all the point benefits plus ~$1k for doing nothing as long as they don’t need the points or a high credit score during that timeframe?

        • S

That’s correct. In fact, shouldn’t even hurt your personal credit score as Dan said this business card won’t report to your personal credit report.

  36. Tony

I got the Ink Business Preffered within the last year(july/august).. My wife has the Reserve.. So would i be able to apply for the ink cash now and then downgrade the ink business when the annual fee hits into the ink business unlimited or just close it as I have the Chase freedom unlimited already… And if the reserve is under my wife’s personal account would i be able to transfer my ink business points to her reserve?

  37. Inkx2

Can I have ink unlimited and ink cash for the same business?

  38. S

Dan, you say it won’t hurt your credit score, since it’s a business cc, but will it hurt your business credit? What about if it’s sole proprietorship?

  39. dave

can you HUCA the recon department?

  40. Cwazy Wabbit

If only they had a personal card for us lowly wage-earners.

  41. Johnny D

Hey dan thanks to you i have recently opened a chase business ink cash card and I’m not so great at the organizing aspect and not a big traveller. With that being said if we can’t take advantage of the 5 points per Dollar category would it be better to use the capital one spark 2% cash back ? I have that card also as well as the freedom and downgraded the sapphire few years ago.

Also I’m trying to locate the amazon gift cards from office and staples are they only available at certain retail stores ? Have you had any luck narrowing down certain locations that do? If so how did you locate (aside from just popping in)

    Your help is much appreciated.

“If you’re like me and you run more than one business, you can signup for multiple of the same card for each business to manage each businesses expenses separately.”
I own a couple of businesses/LLC’S I opened up a while ago the ink cash card as a sole proprietor in order not to have to mess with the paperwork, how should I go about opening another card for another business, Should I submit with a Business name/Tax Id or personal name/social?

    • Dan

If you have an LLC then why not do that?

  43. dealchaser

understood that its a much easier application/approval if on social with the paperwork etc.

    • Dan

So you can do that and explain why you need a 2nd card for different clients, etc.

  44. dealchaser

Thanks I appreciate it, Chag Kasher Vesameach

  45. MN

What does the “account anniversary year” terminology mean? Does that mean you don’t get the bonus points for the first year? Or do you only get them at the end of the year?

    • Dan

Not sure what you’re referring to.

      • MN

When I click on the link to the card, under Highlights it says:

“Earn 5% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services each account anniversary year”

Uses the same terminology for gas, etc.

      • MN

Oh I just realized, it means the limits are not for the calendar year, but account anniversary year

  46. Perry Raskin

Probably worth noting that I purchased an iTunes gift card from Staples today, only to realize that it’s the physical card, and I’m waiting for it to be delivered. The eGift card section on staples’s website does not have iTunes. Not horrible, but good to know.

  47. Shlomo

Foddy! I got the text for this post at the moment i was checking out in staples with $400 Amazon gc’s using my ink card.

  48. e

If I open this card as Sole Partnership, will I be able to manage it online together with all my other cards or I have to a separate online account for business cards?

    • Dan

You can manage all of your Chase cards together.

      • 5/100

How do you combine personal and business accounts online? By default chase gave me separate accounts for my personal cards and my business cards?

  49. Ben

I applied at a chase branch for a business card and they refused me because I applied for too many chase cards. To add insult to injury my personal credit got a hard pull. When I called two different times asking why if my business is a corporation did my personal credit get accessed both times I called I was told that only very large companies don’t get their personal credit checked. I’ve been following you for a while and you are very insistent that it is not the case. Where did I go wrong?
    Thanks.

    • Dan

They certainly check your personal credit to make sure that you’re creditworthy.

When you have the card it doesn’t report on your personal credit.

  50. logic

Dan with all the respect its nice to get 5 % back on all these stores however if everytime i wanted to buy something i would run to office max my family would starve the thing your not calculating is that this takes a tremendous amount of effort and exhaustion if you focus your mind in the right things you should be able to make more parnassah in the time it takes to do this narish kyten your the best dan and your posts are great for good deals but this one…….

    • Dan

Suit yourself. I’m quite happy with all the first class flights I get from this.

    • Aveno

Meh. A bit of careful planning and research go a long way in making this both simple and very worth it. Without planning it can get hectic…

  51. J

Hi dan you should add quill.com as getting 5%back its like staples and Office Depot.

  52. Jim

Probably a bit dense today, but how is 5 points on Amazon card purchases = 10% and not 5%?

“Earning 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on all of your Amazon purchases is pretty sweet! I accomplish that by using my Ink Cash card to buy Amazon gift cards from Office Max, Office Depot, or Staples and then saving the gift cards to my Amazon account where they stack together and never expire. Personally I view that as getting 10% back on my Amazon spending, which makes Ink Cash much stronger than using Amazon’s own credit card for Amazon purchases.”

    • ME

If you use them for flights and value UR points at 2 cents per pt you have 5 x 2= 10.

  53. hh

Staples has a 2k limit if i do it in seperate purchases are they going to cancel the order?

  54. Karov

Is this a world card or has overseas charges?

  55. David

Hi Dan, I was just told by a banker in branch at Chase that if you apply as a sole proprietor only using your ssn, it will go on your personal report and be counted towards 5/24. I just requested a copy of my TransUnion personal credit report and do see a Chase ink preferred card I opened a few months back showing up just as the other personal ones with the only noticeable difference being the fact that its called an “authorized account” as opposed to the personal cards which are called “individual account”. Can it be that it’s still not counted or do I just have bad luck and I’m an exception?

  56. David

So sorry never mind I made a mistake. I was wrong. It was a different card. Should’ve known. the same banker told me there was no more ink cash card as of the last month…

  57. David

Authorized account is an authorized user.

  58. novice

    Dan,
I just applied for a chase ink business cash card. I’m a therapist and wrote “sole proprietor” and applied with my name and social as tax ID. Is it a bad sign if they said they have to look into it more? I haven’t opened or named myself as authorized user on more than 3 cards in the past several years and my credit is excellent.

  59. Z

Everyone PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN LOADING LARGE AMOUNTS OF AMAZON GIFT CARDS ONTO YOUR ACCOUNT I LOST OVER 1500$ (Altogether from two accounts )FROM THAT .Amazon confiscated the gift card balance and won’t give it back

  60. Jay Weiss

Dan-maybe I’m wrong, but I think your math isn’t quite right. Here’s what you wrote:

“You can also buy a $300 Visa gift card from Staples.com for $308.95. The 1,545 points you’ll earn from the purchase are worth between $23.17 (at a value of 1.5 cents per point) and $30.84 (at a value of 2 cents per point).”

I think you forgot to subtract $8.95 from the $23.17. Yes, your points are worth $23.17, but you paid $308.95 to get only $300 worth of mdse. You lost $8.95 on that deal. But made $23.17. Net benefit to you was only $14.22. And 14.22 /1545 points comes to less than 1 cent per point (actually .92 of a cent)! Not that great a deal, really. Thoughts ???

    • Dan

      Your equation is off.
      It’s 14.22/300=4.74x

      • Jay Weiss

Hmm. You’re right, but off just a tad. The 1545 points redeemed at 1.5¢ per point gives you a benefit of $23.17, less the 8.95 you lost in the fee, gives you a benefit of $14.22. You spent $308.95, so it should be 14.22/308.95, for a benfit of 4.6%. If you can buy the card for $300, then you’ll have 1500 points, worth 2250 points, worth $22.50 at 1.5¢ per point. That 2250 divided by the $300 you spent will give you the true 7.5% benefit. You should have gotten a standard 300 points for that $300 purchase, and you ended up with 2250 points. That 22.50 over the basic 300 points you would have otherwise gotten is 7.5%. It’s just confusing, because your 2250 points are still only worth 1¢ each, or $22.50. You have to divide over the correct number, which you pretty much did. Not what I originally did. Thanks for the correction!!

  61. Tova

I just missed the 3 month spend threshold on my Ink Preferred. Has anyone had experience chatting and getting the bonus points? I spoke to the banker in the branch that I frequent who has helped me set up my accounts and he was not able to get an extension or otherwise get me the signup offer points. any ideas??

  62. Yitz Weiss

Dan, this is an AWESOME post and very easy to follow. Thanks so much for the info!

  63. benny

i had the the business preferred card from chase and i just did a product exchange for a business cash card and for some reason there only offering me 4 points per dollar on staples office max etc why is that

    • Emes

Is that 4 on top of the standard 1? That would be 5 ppd.

  64. Eb

Just applied for the ink and putting in my name as business name and sole propietorship as type. Was notified by chase they need paperwork proving my business name from state office. Anyone had this? What to do?

    • EB

UPDATE: Did not submit paperwork and about 2 weeks later the card showed up in the mail!!

  65. Michael Mashinsky

is this card any different from the Chase Business Plus card I have?

  66. Blu

I’ve had the Business Plus for years and want to downgrade to CASH card to avoid annual fee. I would like to apply instead to get bonus points BUT just got approved for CSR.

Since I’m right at 5/24- downgrading is the way to go, correct?

  67. Jb

Wife has chase reserve I have the ink card. Any chance they would allow me to transfer my points into her sapphire reserve account?

    • Blu

Yes you can transfer within household

  68. David

Dan, would you advise to opt out of the new chase arbitration clause? Do you think there will be any repercussions?

  69. kosher

Is it not more worth to apply for the preferred and then downgrade?
How long do you have to wait to downgrade?

    • Dan

You may have to wait 12 months to downgrade.

  70. Greenspan

It seems this card true benefits is only worthwhile if your a head of household with a family and will be doing a significant amount of annual spending and you will be able to take advantage of all these spending areas.
Otherwise the hustle of getting all these gift cards to use towards Amazon (etc) spending seems impractical if one only spends annually for one person.

    • Jablinski

It’s a no fee card and you buy what you want/can. So if you’re going to buy stuff at Amazon anyway, why not maximize your return by buying Amazon gift cards at office supply stores with Ink Cash.

  71. Sam

Is it possible to get approved for this card if I have the Ink Unlimited? I’m good with 5/24

  72. Sam

If I downgrade from my ink will I get the signup bonus and if I don’t get the bonus and downgrade anyways will I get the bonus when I apply?

    • Dan

You only get a bonus for a new application.

  73. ROYA

I have been looking for amazon gc’s every time I”m in staples. They never have! I can’t find on the website either. My location is Brooklyn, NY. Does it make sense that they are not selling because they rather not send customers to a competitor or is it that DansDeals followers are beating me there and they get sold out quickly??

    • ROYA

“Charges made with streaming services, like Hulu, Netflix, SiriusXM, Sling, Spotify, Tivo, and Vudu”
      Was streaming services always X5?

  74. toni

staples online wont let me check out with a staples GC if i’m buying a southwest GC! I guess I’ll go check at the actual store…. is this new?

  75. Jason

I already have the Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited (both $0 annual fee cards). If I get the Ink Business Preferred, can I eventually change it down to one of the no annual fee ink cards or any of the freedom cards? Does it matter that I already have all those cards??

    Thanks.

  76. Alexander

Would love to have one but they closed all my chase accounts!!!

    • CHASE IS THE WORST!

Chase routinely does that even to their most loyal customers! Chase and AA are competing in regard to who hates their customers more!!!

  77. Alexander

Anyone know how long after account closed by Chase I can apply to get new card? Accounts were not closed because of missed payments or credit rating. All accounts were paid on time and my credit rating is in the 800’s. Chase closed accounts according to them because I exceeded my usual spending pattern!

  78. kosher

Can i use a business card for my everyday spending?

  79. Sam

I have twice a week for the last month to 2 different Staples stores. Unfortunately, they never have the Amazon gift cards; which is frustrating given the thousands of dollars I spend a year on Amazon items.

    • Dan

Did you ask them to get more in?
Did you look for Kindle and Fire gift cards as well?
Try Office Max or Office Depot?

  80. Moish

I have a Chase Ink Cash card and a Chase Freedom card. If i do plan on getting one of the Sapphire cards, and would like to transfer the points. How can I do that, if my Ink business cash card is not accessible in my personal Chase portal. I have to log in to my business Chase portal?

    • Dan

You can call Chase and ask them to add your consumer cards to your business card profile.

  81. Mendy

Hi Dan, I downgraded from a different business cards to this card about a year and a half ago. I never got the bonus points for opening this card. If I close this card can I apply for it again and get the bonus point?

  82. BB

    Hi Dan,
Can I transfer these points to ultimate rewards if my wife’s ultimate rewards account is through her business (not personal) card?
    Thank you!

if i open a a new card with 0% apr and transfer a higher line of credit from my ink plus will i get the promotional apr on the whole thing

  84. AaronH

I have a Chase Ink Business Plus..is this the same as Chase Ink Cash, in terms of 5 points per dollar at Staples?

  85. rabrab

I have a Chase Ink Business Plus with a $95 yearly fee. Is there any reason to keep this, rather than one of the cards without a fee?

    • Dan

It gives the 5x on $50 of spending and has no forex fees.

  86. kaballah

    Great Post! Thanks.
@Dan I am currently spending approx 2 million USD online shopping. Card used so far is the Spark by Capital one which gives me 2% cashback. This will definitely give me much more however how do I go about getting past the 25k max limit for the 5% office spending?

  87. DAVID LEVIN

you cant buy amazon gift cards online I see and in the stores can you pay with a cc?
and can you make the first 3-month spending with this?

  88. Abby

I appologize if this was asked and answered – I have an Ink Business preferred that we applied for in January 2019 – We achieved our requirement to get the bonus miles. We did not know at the time about the Ink Cash that give 5 points per $ on all purchases. How can I get the Ink Cash Card 5 points per $ in addition OR instead of the Ink Bus Preferred. My Husband saw something that indicated that I can’t apply within a 24 month period of applying to another ink card. What say you Dan?

    • Dan

They are different cards, so you can apply for it and get the bonus.

  89. moshe klass

Do you need to have a Chase business account for Ink?

  90. Abe

@dan If I want to downgrade my Ink preferred card to one without an annual fee- either the cash or unlimited card- would i not be able to get the ink cash or unlimited card sign up bonus in the future if I havent done so already?

    • Dan

Apply for the Ink Cash first and then downgrade the Ink Preferred to it.

  91. Tova Chait

To qualify for the sign up bonus, do you have to pay off the $3k balance on the card within the 3 months, or if just making minimum payments will I still qualify? (my card came with 0% on new purchases for a year also, so I have only been paying the minimum). Thanks!

    • jeff

you can make minimum payments and get the signup bonus

  92. M

I got the Ink Unlimited like 2 month ago, can I switch to this Ink Cash Card?

    • Dan

They’re both great cards. You can apply for an Ink Cash and get the signup bonus on it as well.

  93. menahem

Can I have 2 ink cash cards I have 1 cash card can I downgrade the preferred?

  94. DC

When does this offer expire and is it usually 50K bonus?

    • Dan

Unknown. This is the highest it’s been.

  95. DC

Possibly applying for a mortgage one of these months, being its business card will that only affect me in the hard pull area. Correct? My avg score is 800 so can I afford the few points

  96. Frank

How many percent back is 5 points?

    • Dan

5% cash or much more towards travel.

  97. New kid on the block

If i or any of my household members dont have a any chase cards is this card worth it /can i transfer the points to air travel,
and how good of a credit score would i need for this card?
is there any other chase card i can apply for that would make this card worth it?
    thanks

  98. ilya

    Hi Dan,

Thank you for posting this listing and always providing a great breakdown explanation of all the card benefits and offers. I signed up for this card in April and unfortunately did not reach the $3,000 spending threshold within 3 months to earn the 50k points. Is there anyway I could still recoup the points?

    Thank you in advance!

      • ilya

If i close the card and reapply, will i still be eligible for the sign up bonus?

  99. ben

hi dan thx for another great post.was wondering if i already have a sapphire reserve can i open this or the business preferred for the sign up bonus and then retain the points if i then cancel the business card.and would that affect my credit? thx

is this a preparation for the staples visa deal

  101. Ed

Is the application site down for anyone else? I keep getting

  105. D

I’ve never seen any such Amazon kindle or fire gift cards in a staples.. just the plain 100 Amazon ones

  106. Cee

Just to clarify I just got the Chase Ink Preferred and am working toward the 80K bonus. Therefore, if I get the Chase Ink Cash Card now, I will not get the 50K bonous….correct? I have to wait 24 months?

    • Dan

Nope, there is no waiting period.

  107. min

Can buying gift cards at staples to max out the 5 points bonus category trigger a shutdown?

  108. Sara

If I get approval for the Ink Business Cash, is there any reason to keep the Ink Business Plus that I’ve had (and used well) for years? It has a $95 annual fee and other than a higher limit on 2x and 5x spending (50k v 25K), I don’t see a difference between the 2 cards. I rarely spend the 50k and have the CSR for transfers. Is there another benefit I’m overlooking?

    • Dan

No forex fees and double points on hotels with Ink Plus.
Don’t need to close it though, you can downgrade it to any of the 3 current Ink cards. But downgrade after you signup and get the bonus on the new card.

  109. JV

I’ve never seen Walgreens cards at office supply stores or grocery stores. Anyone know if this is just a policy, walgreens doesnt sell in 3rd party locations? I like the pharmacy but trying to maximize the spend there

  110. Y

What are the best rewards – points or cashback – if you only use consumer cards i.e. you don’t have a business?

  111. iPhone

If I purchased an iPhone through Verizon will that be considered subject to the 5% bonus?

  112. Now the cash back guru

So to recap please confirm: you need to buy amazon gift cards At Office Depot type stores to effectively get a 5% cash back, but capped at $25,000 per year.

So ultimately if you are spending more than 25k at Amazon this card is is only worth it for a short period of time let’s assume I do 25k at amazon per month.

Or am I reading this wrong?

    • Dan

You can get more than one of these cards.

  113. shlomo

dan… need to think about tax payments now..so using the analogy of a 10k payment cost me 187 if I use the 1.5 points I get 15k points which can be used at 1.5 reserve price of $225 – Is there any BETTER option .. small spread.. 225-187.. is the card 5x per first 20k spent still in play? No signup bonus.. may eliminate that idea,, What are your thoughts?

  114. E&N

Hi Dan, Office Depot is running one of their $15 back on $300 of Mastercards from Dec 8-14. You are usually my go-to for those deals.
    Please spread the word–thanks

    • Dan

I took a break from posting the Mastercards as there have been reports of them getting hacked or drained of late.

  115. E&N

Thanks and good to know. And most importantly, thank you for really transforming my life in the ability to vacation, fly and visit places we never would have otherwise. Back to more mundane things…is there a way to know when they are running those sales?

  116. m

i dont see 4 bonus points added to my amazon purchases is it only for new ink cash cards?

  117. Oded G.

Dan, following this post I got a new chase business cash card. Went to staples to get some gift cards however they told me I can’t use a credit card To purchase gift cards. only cash or debit card. Any advise on this?

    • Dan

Sounds you got a bad rep. Try again? Or try another store as it certainly does work.
Also works online via the links in this post.

      • Oded G.

        Ok will try another store.
He also told me they have a limit of $200 per day for gift cards. I will test that as well.

  118. Sarah

I used to order the $300 gift cards from Staples online, until I had $5000 worth stolen somehow before they arrived at my address, and then they claimed that they had been used. I spent many hours and stressful times with chase, trying to overturn the charges, and then eventually with staples President’s office, to get assistance, as I had bought so many cards during the winter season while I was in the states. Finally got it straightened out, but I would NEVER order gift cards like visa gift cards in the mail again. Also this winter I am back and it seems it is much more difficult to use them for making money orders at Publix, they seem to be cracking down, so everything is getting more difficult.

  119. Nolad

Will I get 5% for gift cards at Staples with Chase Ink Business plus?

  120. Kranzman

Dan- you mentioned in the post that you buy Amazon cards at Office Depot or Staples and get 5 points per dollar. I got that. But you said you consider them worth 10%. How is that?

    • Dan

When you transfer points into miles you can easily get a value of 2% or more.

For example a one-way last minute ticket from CLE to NYC can cost $500 or 10K United miles, a value of 5 cents per mile or 25% back when earning 5 points per dollar.

A Park Hyatt hotel can cost $1,200/night or 30K points, a value of 4 cents per point or 20% back when earning 5 points per dollar.

If you have a Sapphire Reserve then you get a minimum value of 7.5% from 5 points, but you can do much better with mileage transfers.

      • David

This example is perfect for CLE to NYC, let’s see MIA to NYC example on last minute flight

        • Dan

That’s a route for using bank points at a value of 1.5 cents each. Exactly why Hybrid points are so valuable!

  121. Sim

How can I know which Amex cc do not effect my credit score if I pay the majority of the balance before the closing of the statement, & which ones do?

  122. Sim

If its a personal cc, & I used more then 35% of the spenting limit, will it effect my credit score even if I pay the balance before the due date?

  123. Sim

Even if almost the entire expense was to lay out money for the damage of a car rental that is covered by the cc, which essentialy means that they will credit me the money within the next few weeks. Will they put the 2 together, or do they immediatly report it to the credit bureaus?

  124. Ben

    Hey Dan,

Just signed up and got approved for a 50k ink business unlimited card with your link. I already have the ink cash and ink preferred, and wanted to now downgrade my current ink preferred down to another ink unlimited. When I secured message them my request, they told me that I can’t have more than one ink unlimited. Is this true , any advice you have for me? My fee just posted for the preferred and don’t want it anymore.

    • Dan

You can, just pickup the phone.

  125. David

Any reason to use the Chase Ink credit card for Amazon.com purchases instead of the Chase Amazon Prime credit card? They both earn 5%?

    • JJ

Yes, 5 Chase points are worth much more than 5% back.

      • rebyid

In exchange for forfeiting credit card protections. Because when you buy something with a gift card, it doesn’t help that you bought the gift card with a credit card.

        • YM

As has been explained in previous posts, this is for when the bonus points to be gained are more valuable to you then the credit card protections. Eg, smaller items or items that wouldn’t be excluded from the protections anyways, etc.

  126. Beni J

How long does it take to get approved? Is it instant? Do the do a hard pull?

  127. Hey

Just wanted to point out if you want to
Update your list for instore at staples, they sell $50 BEST BUY cards. Been probably almost 6 months now since they started this.

  128. Danny K

Best card to maximize your points! I buy $200 gift cards from staples every time they have fee waived and use them for daily expenses. I’ve already hit the annual $25K for the 5%. I then transfer the points to sapphire, and use them for travel. I’ve traveled and booked hotels multiple times for free bc of the ink points.
THANK YOU DAN!! Please keep posting whenever staples have fee waived promotion on gift cards.

  129. YM

Dan, if you don’t have any business cards, what would be the next best card (consumer) to use for Amazon purchases?

  130. S/O

What do I put as the income on a business card; business income or total household income?

  131. Miles addict

Why am I not getting 5x points on ink cash when i pay my Verizon cell phone bill?

      • C2CMom

Just curious, why don’t you charge your verizon bill to a card that offers cell phone insurance?

  132. LAYid

Hi Dan. Thank you for all the amazing info you share we really appreciate it here in LA.
I have been approved for more then 5 credit cards in the last 24 but I have a offer that I am prequalified for the ink card. Will I automatically be denied? Please clarify..

  133. IV

Does it all apply across all Chase Inc cards such as amazon 5 points. I have business preferred?

    • Dan

No, just Ink Cash and Ink Plus.

  134. Miles addict

Just confirmed with chase, verizon is NOT categorized as a phone bill with Visa merchant coding

    • Dan

I get 5x with Verizon wireless.

  135. David

Dan recommends buying Amazon gift cards with the Chase Ink Business Cash card at a Staples store, etc. in order to get the 5 points per dollar spent. Don’t I earn the same 5 reward points per dollar spent on Amazon if I use the Chase Amazon credit card? I see that all my Amazon purchases thru the Chase Amazon Prime credit card are all earning 5 reward points per dollar spent. Am I missing something about buying the Amazon gift cards at a Staples store and using those gift cards instead of the Chase Amazon Prime card? Please help me. Thanks.

    • JJ

The Amazon card earns 5 cents per dollar, the Ink will earn 5 Chase UR points per dollar, worth at least 7.5 cents per dollar.

      • David

Again, I don’t get it. When I look at my UR tally from my Chase Amazon credit card I see that I’m getting 5 UR points — NOT 5 cents — per every dollar I spend on purchases from Amazon.com.
So, the distinction of 5 UR points vs 5 cents doesn’t seem to be correct. Please explain if I’m not understanding you correctly. Thanks

  136. Peregrino4Life

Hey, Dan. You have been a blessing to my family and me since we met you in Miami in 2015. I have a question regarding my Chase Ink PLUS Card which is still grandfathered in. Is there anything that should keep me from trading this $95 annual fee card for a no-annual fee Chase Ink Cash card? Is there any sense in paying the annual fee if I get the same benefits on a new Ink Cash card? Please advise. Thanks!

    • Dan

Ink plus earns 5x on $50K annually and has no forex fees.

  137. John

Duh. But how am I supposed to get the ink card with the ridiculous 5/24 rule in place??

    • Dan

Some people have reported getting Ink cards despite being way over 5/24.
      YMMV.

  138. Esti A

We need an article on how to liquidate (at no cost) visa/MasterCard gifts cards. My Walmart does not allow money order purchases using these cards.

  139. breslover

DAN would it work to buy gas gc at staples (x5 points) then maybe get the cash price for gas ?

    • Dan

It does for some gas stations.

  140. Yakov

How could you redeem chase points for 2 cents each?

    • Dan

Easily when you transfer points into miles.
I just booked a $500 ticket for 7,500 Avios, a value of 6.7 cents per point!

      • Yakov

So why do you write above that 50,000 points is worth $750-$1,000 when transferred to miles. Shouldn’t it be a lot more then that?

        • Dan

They can be, but 2 cents per point is an attainable goal, whereas 6 cents per point can be harder to find.

  141. Moshe

I have a chase united and chase ink preferred under my business ein. Tried signing up for another ink business preferred using my name ans ss as business name and they say that I am already using a lot of unsecured credit since my name is the guarantee on the business cards.
Ever hear of such a thing?

    • Dan

Ask to transfer credit lines between cards.

  142. gronem

the amazon GC are only avail. in store at staples/office max? i can’t them online?

  143. nasoniel

i used mine on amazon and i didnt get 5 points per dollar spent

      • nasoniel

after reading again i realized u said to buy amazon gift cards at specific stores like staples to get them

  144. SM

@Dan just applied and got approved for the chase performance business but with a credit limit of only $5k, this tells me that im near the end limit of the credit that chase is willing to lend me. I want to apply for the chase ink as well tomm, i have a chase sapphire reserve with 35k limit, should i lower my limit on that to 25k to give me a $10k cushion and increase the odds of approval for the chase ink when i apply for it? Also i hear that there is an unofficial 1/30 rule for business cards, is that true?

    • Dan

      YMMV.
      I haven’t experienced that rule.

      • avi

oh my gosh, what means YMMV for a good year? seeing it sooo many times here? 🙂

      • SM

thanks went ahead and applied and got approved for $5500 between the two an easy $130k. Thanks much

  145. Michael

Hi Dan – is there a limit on how many Chase Ink Business Cash Cards I can open using my SSN under the tax id? Realistically, I would like to open 10 cards to maximize the 25k spending bonus limit per card. Can I interchange the business name as “Michael Cohn 1″ Michael Cohn 2” ….Thank you

  146. Moe

I had only one Chase card the Amazon Visa prime card. Recently chase closed my account and said I was abusing the card. Which is pretty much true. I was only spending on it to make cash back. Buying stuff for a amazon selling group.

Has anyone got this Ink Cash card closed for same reason?

  147. ThanksDan!

I just applied for this card and was rejected due to another inc card that I opened recently (was around 3 months ago) and the reason was that they want to see how well I do with the first inc card. My question is, can I apply right away for a personal card? united miles card (will this rejection have an impact on my approval for a personal card?)

  148. YM

Dan, is love to use one of your referral link, I just don’t have my own business..

    • Dan

Don’t need one. Have a hobby?

      • Y

Closest thing would be buying and reselling on craigslist. But I have absolutely no paperwork to show for it. I think I recall seeing somewhere that they require paperwork for verification at some point. Correct me if I’m wrong. Additionally, i can’t say I’m making more than a few hundred dollars a year off it (at least while it stays in the hobby stage, which I think it will.)
Let me know what I could do and how (if anything)

        Thanks!

        • Dan

If you apply with your name as in the post you don’t need paperwork.

          • Y

Got it. And do you think that chase is likely to accept a business with very very small revenue?

  149. Jay Weiss

Question Dan: I’ve never bought a $200 Visa card from Staples. Suppose I have $14 left on the card and want to buy something for $36 on line. Will they take the one card and w/draw the $14 on that and then let me give them a second card for the add’l $22? How exactly does that work?

    • m65

i am over 5/24 can i get the card w/o signup bonus?

    • Barry

If you don’t have enough on a Visa card, you usually can’t use it to make an online purchase. You’ll have to drain the card in a store.
One online workaround that I know of is that you can use low balance Visa gift cards up on Amazon by buying an Amazon gift card for the exact amount that’s left on the Visa gift card. You can then combine an Amazon gift card with another payment method to make your purchase.
Just a couple more pieces of advise. If you use a Visa gift cards at restaurants with a waiter or waitress, the Visa often gets preauthorized for an extra 20% above the bill to account the tip. In order to drain the Visa after a restaurant purchase, you have to wait a few days for the pending charge to process. Also don’t use prepaid Visas at a gas pump. They often get preauthorized for $100. If you need to use a prepaid Visa at a gas station, pay inside with the clerk or use the prepaid Visa to buy a gas station gift card of your choice.

  150. Mike

Does WWE Network count as a streaming service? I pay to my card through paypal, but WWE Network shows on the CC statement. Does that make a difference?

  151. herb

thanks for the post. after thinking it over i dont want to be busy going out and buying gift cards, having to upload them to my amazon account, wont be able to track purchases and other cc benefits and then having to tranfer afterwards to another chase card to get the max value. i would rather just get the 5% straight from amazon credit card. that being said, what is the difference between the 3 amazon cards the earn 5%? tia

  152. Jake

    Dear Dan
Hi can i buy gift cards and then buy something with the gift card and my cc and get refunded on my cc i know that Nordstrom does that but was wondering if other places do that to

  153. Law

Hi everyone, anyone have any ideas on where to get an amazon gift card online these days while also activating the 5x Ink points?

  154. Nix

I saw that you can also earn 5% cash back through samsung.com purchase. How can I confirm this?

  155. Shaq

Just a friendly warning: buried deep in Amazon’s terms and conditions it states that you can’t use GC for business purchases, and they have taken away GC from people for this. People buying with tax exempt, business accounts, and such.

    • O\'niel

Anyone have any more DP for this comment?

  156. Shmuel

@Dan what are the chances I will get approved for this card for a new business? [I have couple of private chase cards and good personal credit]

  157. Shim

Does anyone know of a Brooklyn Staples location that currently has Amazon GC?

  158. R

    @Dan
Excellent detailed info as usual. But I have a question for you on the big picture. Shouldn’t the typical “dansdealer” utilize their energies devoted to this sport towards attaining sign up bonuses and other high-reward strategies, instead of running to staples every month (if you don’t want to significantly front-load) to buy gift cards and loading them onto Amazon, all for what to an average amazon prime member ($1400 spent per year) will amount to a few thousand extra points earned, and even to a $500/month spender barely more than 20k extra points?

  159. raj

    samsung.com does not work anymore

  160. Ari

Can I add an other cardholder for free?

  161. jay zee

I’m not gonna get approved due to the 5/24 rule but can I take my ink preferred and lower it to cash card?

  162. Raphy

    Hi
Is there a limit to the 5% you can earn on Amazon ? Can you spend $300k with the card on Amazon and get the 5% on the $300K spent ?

    • Dan

“on up to $25K in annual spending”

But I have 5 Ink Cash cards 🙂

  163. Nvtech

    Hello Dan,

The charges from samsung.com aren’t earning 5x when using Chase Ink Plus.
My Note 20 purchase just got 1x base points.

  164. Victoria

this was such a helpful blog! I was debating on opening up this card and because of your blog I will! It was so helpful and make the decision so easy. Thank you for your thorough blog including all the gift cards. I will use your referral code 🙂

  165. ZL

How do you figure 10% back on Amazon? You get 5x points at Staples, do you also earn cashback at Amazon when paying with a gift card balance?

    • Dan

If you use miles at a value of 2 cents each, which is typically my minimum goal.

  166. Question

If a business is new (less than a year) is it less likely to get approved?
    Thank you

  167. Nirc

Received a SUB of 112500 points (75,000 + (5 x 7500)) since my full spend was at OM/Staples, thereby giving me $1687.50 in spending money. Best part was the 0% APR for 12 months.

  168. SK

I current have the ink preferred for $95 annual fee.
Does it make sense to apply for the cash card (and the ink unlimited potentially for 1.5 which I have on the personal unlimited anyway) then transfer my preferred credit limit to the ink cash card and close it the preferred?
I have the sapphire reserve for maximum points redemption.
Any other perks worth $95 a year?

  169. MK

    Hey Dan!
Great article! Thanks for taking the time.
Question, not sure if I missed something here.
Would setting this cc as my preferred method of payment on Amazon still enable me to earn 5 points per $ or was there something specific about getting the gift cards to accomplish that?

  170. Barry

Do you know if the 5% internet applies to Google Adwords advertsising? I spend $ 25,000 a month there. Be nice to pickup $ above citi double cash back.
