Check your AMEX Membership Rewards cards to see if you are targeted to get 5,000 points for purchasing a $99 Amazon Prime 1 year membership by 3/2/18.

People haven’t been receiving any email confirmations for this offer. I tested buying a Prime gift subscription with this offer, as that can be converted into an Amazon gift card equal to the amount paid for the gift subscription. My guess is that I’ll have to contact AMEX to receive the 5,000 points for choosing the gift option, but I’ll update this post with the results.

5,000 Membership Rewards points can be worth $75-$100 depending on how you utilize those points.

You can use this link to access the old AMEX Offers interface, which is still compatible with the multi-tab method.

To see which offers you have, just login to your AMEX account, click on any of your cards to go the activity page, click on “AMEX Offers For You,” and save the offer to your account.

If you also have multiple cards with the offer don’t rush to save the offer to your account!  Open up the Offers page for each card in a separate tab in the same browser.  Then go between the tabs to save the offer to each of your targeted cards.  Otherwise once you save the offer to one card it disappears from your other cards.

Always check all primary and secondary card offers, as secondary cards will often have offers that the primary card does not. You can add secondary cards in your own name to your primary login or you can create a new login for other secondary cards.

Note that you only have to worry about an offer disappearing from other cards when they are registered to the same account. Saving an offer won’t affect cards that have their own login.

If you mess up and don’t save the offer to a card you can always remove a card from one login and make a dedicated login for it to register it. Alternatively you can remove the card that has an offer saved to it and the offer will reappear for the rest of the cards registered to that account. Once you properly save the offer to all cards on that account you can re-register the deleted card back to the same account.

By transferring them to miles or using them for paid tickets if you have a Business Platinum card.

do you think it will work if I cancel my prime membership and activate it again with the amex?

    • Dov

      Delta Amex
      1. Any reason to pay 95 instead of downgrade to no fee delta Amex?
2 when downgrade all AUs included in new downgrades cards?

  3. Redbull3

Normal that they charge tax on a gift subscription?

    • Jay

Why is that different than charging tax on any other gift you buy someone?

How could i receive the most amount of money for my membership rewards points, like you wrote before ” depending how You utilize”

    • mec

Join various airline frequent flyer programs that have partner status with Amex. Find a flight you want that has a high cash cost relative to the FF program points cost. Transfer those points to that program. Book that flight with those points.

” I tested buying a Prime gift subscription with this offer, as that can be converted into an Amazon gift card equal to the amount paid for the gift subscription”
Dan, can you explain how to do this?

  11. Mike

Did it work with the prime gift subscription?

    • Scott C

@Mike, it didn’t work for me. My transaction posted today. It is coded as Amazon Mktpalce PmntsAmzn.com. I haven’t called Amex yet to see if they can do anything.

      • hjeko

What’s the best way to make it work then?

  12. Joel

@dan were you successful on getting the 5K for buying a prime gift?

    • Mike

@dan were you successful on getting the 5K for buying a prime gift?

  13. W3lzy

So, any update on the buying the gift?
Does calling amex help at all?

    • Mark

      @Dan any update??? Thank you.

    • josh

Calling amex does not help..I tried. I bought gift sub and no amex confirm of offer redemption. Amazon is coding the transaction as a “prime sub purchase” for purchases that deserve the offer (as amex is probably charging amazon for the points)
