The DOJ is suing American and JetBlue to stop their Northeast Alliance, but despite that, the airlines continue to push forward.
Previously, the airlines announced that you can earn miles on each others flights.
Starting today, JetBlue Mosaic members flying on American will get:
- Priority check-in desks at the airport.
- Access to expedited security lanes.
- Earlier boarding (Group 4) with priority boarding lanes.
- Priority bags.
- Up to two free checked bags with check-in at American ticket counters.
- Complimentary same day changes to flights.
By the end of the year, Mosaic members traveling on American flights will also receive complimentary preferred seating.
Starting today, AAdvantage elite members flying on JetBlue will receive:
- Up to two free checked bags when traveling on JetBlue with check-in at JetBlue kiosks, ticket counters or via the JetBlue mobile app.
- Priority check-in
- Priority bags
- Priority security
- Priority boarding when traveling on JetBlue-operated flights
By the end of the year, AAdvantage elite members traveling on JetBlue flights will also receive complimentary preferred seating.
Starting in November, AAdvantage members will be able to redeem miles to book flights on JetBlue. In the future, JetBlue TrueBlue customers will also be able to redeem points for flights operated by American.
Overall these are some nice new benefits and it adds another reason to spend $15K on a JetBlue card this year to earn Mosaic. Notably however is that unlike elite reciprocity with Alaska, upgrades are not part of this program. That makes sense as most of JetBlue’s fleet isn’t equipped with a business class section and JetBlue’s own Mosaic members don’t typically get upgrades.
It seems like a good strategy for the airlines to continue pushing forward with their alliance. If the public is in favor of it, it’s less likely to be rolled back.
Now if the DOJ wants to undo Continental-United, Airtran-Southwest, American-USAirways, or the Delta-Northwest mergers I’d be strongly in favor of that as those truly ruined real competition in the industry. However, that ship has sailed and undoing the American-JetBlue alliance isn’t likely to do anything for the competitive landscape. If anything, the competitive landscape in NYC has increased, with this alliance making flights like American’s JFK to Tel Aviv and Athens feasible thanks to JetBlue’s connecting feed at JFK.
What do you think of these new benefits?
What I do think of these benefits?
I think the 15K JetBlue Plus spend is a no brainer now. Sounds good to me.
DOJ does not inspire confidence that they care about the regular guy.
Cool. But JetBlue really has to start allowing upgrades for their own elite to Mint. It’s mostly a joke.
True, it’s a pathetic status at this point.
Do these benefits apply to international AA flights as well?
Yes.
@dan what level status will mosaic members get on AA ? do you get access to admiral lounges as well
You don’t get a level, you get the benefits in the post.
No.
Does this apply to everyone on the same reservation?
It should.
When flying AA, how do i make sure AA registers my mosaic status on JetBlue?
Just give them your JetBlue Trueblue number.
50lbs or 70lbs?
(Both airlines…)
The first thing JetBlue needs to do is show their mosaic costumers that they value them. Just flew out of HPN and got to airport 42 min b4 flight there is a priority lane for mosaic travelers, there was no one in front of me, but until the rep took me it was 40 min b4 the flight and she told me she can’t take the bag anymore as the flight is closed already I asked her to call up and she wouldn’t budge so I just put my bag back in my car and went thru security and guess what the flight is delayed so I went back to baggage and politely said I want ur name so when I get a survey I can let them know that u weren’t able to help a mosaic customer, she literally started to cry to the point were I felt bad for her. She told me she can’t call up and ask if she can put in another bag because she would get written up so b4 they want to add benefits first let ur employees know that mosaic customers should be treated as loyal customers.
when using true blue miles to book aa flight (or the opposite) will the miles have the value of true blue miles or aa miles
How do you get JetBlue to apply your AA elite benefits?
Give them your AA mileage number.
I have a jetblue flight this Thursday – I booked it using my jetblue ff number. How do I get the elite benefits (I’m Platinum on AA) on Jetblue?
