A reader has sent me a tip that the Alaska Airlines partnership with Air France and KLM will end on 12/6. They said that 12/6 will be the last day to redeem Alaska miles to fly on Air France/KLM or vice versa.
Alaska gave 4 months notice before their partnership with Delta ended.
However they gave zero notice before doubling the miles required to fly on Emirates.
Given the battle that Alaska and Delta are waging in Seattle, it’s no surprise to see Delta allies like Air France and KLM break up with Alaska as well. But you would hope that more advance warning would be given.
Once upon a time Alaska was partners with America West, American, Continental, Delta, and Northwest. They are not part of any alliance and have been able to cozy up to airlines from several alliances. But as airlines have merged and as Alaska grows, they have been losing many of their partner airlines.
I can’t confirm the 12/6 end date, but if you do have any bookings to make, you’ll want to take care of them now just to be safe.
A flight from the US to Europe on Air France/KLM is 30K Alaska miles in coach or 62.5K Alaska miles in business class each way. A flight from the US to Africa or the Middle East on Air France/KLM is 40K Alaska miles in coach or 70K Alaska miles in business class each way. There are no fuel surcharges and you can get a free stopover, even on a one-way ticket! That means that you can stopover in the beautiful cities of Paris and Amsterdam when flying to Israel without using any additional miles.
You can transfer 20K Starpoints into 25K Alaska miles or you can earn 30K miles and get a BOGO companion ticket for signing up for the Bank of America Alaska Airlines card. You can view credit card offers by hovering over the “Credit Cards” tab. You can click on “Top Credit Card Offers“ and then hover over “Card Type” to find card offers from the bank you’re looking for.
Will you book any Alaska-Air France/KLM awards before the partnership may end?
question:
AF is 25k miles for US to Europ and israel, so why in the first place i will want to book with alaska miles ?>
AF charges fuel surcharges and doesn’t allow for a free stopover.
how do you workout a free stopover when booking partner airlines through alaska? over the phone? what button in the search engine etc? also, Would you dan credit a paid flight, assuming you would take a paid flight, to alaska rather then an airline that give 100 percent of the flown miles? thanks
You can book as a multi-city online or over the phone.
You should always check the exact earnings before deciding where to credit.
any chance you know if the Alaska kept Virgin’s connection to Virgin Australia? Specificallyn if Virgin Australia LAX-SYD roundtrip for 40K virgin elevate points is still available to book?
I recently spent several months and untold hours of searching for Alaska partner award space in premium cabins. First AF/KLM has a shorter booking window and I had a hard time finding much at all. In the event you did find space there was no decent return space. They also charge surcharges. In addition if you try to book a simple CDG trip the taxes are high as well. Not UK high but still. I hate to see this go away as I really like AF.
