Last month, American permanently eliminated changes fees for all travel originating in North or South America.

Delta announced that they will also permanently eliminate change fees for all travel originating in North America, though there’s no love for South Americans.

Basic economy fares will continue to have change fees, as that will become a major differentiation point between fares. I’d imagine that in the future the pricing gap between regular economy tickets and basic economy tickets will grow to make up for change fees.

Delta also announced that all tickets booked through 3/31/21 will have no change fees, regardless of the point of origin or if it’s a basic economy ticket.

So if i buy a ticket now to fly in August 2021, I can cancel a flight anytime, and then just keep changing the dates in perpetuity to keep my ticket alive? If a ticket is $1,000 and i change to a lower fare does the difference stay in my account as Delta credit without expiration?

I don’t know how long this will last, but Delta flights from Tel Aviv to New York (only when originating in TLV) are fully refundable in all cabins, all fare classes! It’s been this way for a few months already…

does that mean even if there is a difference in price for the fare I can just change it or I have to pay the difference

As it reads on their website, the more generous policy only starts in 2021. For tickets booked through March 2021, it still says that they can only be rebooked within a year of the date the ticket was issued.
