JetBlue is the most civilized of the US carriers. They have excellent legroom, free DirecTV, free WiFi, a wide variety of free snacks at the gate and onboard.
JetBlue Plus World Elite Mastercard cardholders get free checked baggage, 10% rebates on point redemptions, 50% off in-flight purchases, 5K points every card anniversary, and much more and you don’t need to use the card to get those benefits. If you spend $50K/calendar year you can earn up to 2 years of top-tier Mosaic status!
Best of all, they don’t sell Basic Economy fares, so even if you get a deal you can still have a free assigned seat with free carry-ons.
However they did announce some negative changes this week:
- Same day confirmed flight changes will now cost $75, up from $50 previously. This will remain free for Mosaic members.
- Standby on another flight will now cost $75, this was free previously. The only reason to go standby now would be if the flight is sold out and you can’t make a same day confirmed change. This will remain free for Mosaic members.
- Credit for fare drops without penalty will only be available for 5 days from the date of purchase. Previously you could get a credit if your fare dropped within 14 days of purchase and before that they offered a credit without any time limit. Mosaic members continue to be able to get a credit without time limit as they can always cancel a flight without penalty.
- Other airlines that offer a credit for fare drops without penalty include Alaska and Southwest, neither of which have a time limit.
Delta has started the next race to the bottom with their launch of Basic Economy fares on select routes to Europe and North Africa.
The 1st checked bag will cost $60 and the 2nd checked bag will cost $100. Carry-on luggage remains free on Delta Basic Economy fares.
Delta elites and credit card holders will continue to get a free bag, even on a basic economy fare. However you won’t be able to pick a seat, make any flight changes, or upgrade to better seats.
This doesn’t affect travel to Tel Aviv. Yet.
I’m sure it won’t be long before American and United copy Delta and add even more restrictions.
If only JetBlue or Southwest flew across the pond…
united has basic economy and they only let you have a personnel item not even a normal carry on would not recommend I made that mistake and they were very rude
Same as American.
If you have their credit card it waives that restriction.
In the fine print of the JetBlue plus cc I remember reading that you need to use the credit card in order to get the free baggage, I also called them earlier this week to confirm this and that is what they told me. Am I getting it wrong?
It’s not enforced. As long as you provide your JetBlue number you’ll get the benefits.
Delta E Fares allow a carry on in overhead bin?
Yes.
Who wants to start DansDeals Airlines? Cash and Carry only. 😉
I do! But dont think people will get tickets free!
For Delta’s race for the bottom you wrote that “The 1st checked bag will cost $60 and the 2nd checked bag will cost $100. Carry-on luggage remains free on Delta Basic Economy fares.” — The 2nd checked bag cost would be the same as it currently is for regular economy to TLV
