JetBlue is offering their most lucrative promotion of all time with bonus points if you have Virgin America Elevate points and fly on JetBlue:

b63

So for the cost of a $66 round-trip flight on JetBlue you can earn 75K bonus points, on top of the regular points you’ll earn from the paid flight.

You need to email JetBlue a screenshot of your Virgin America point balance, name, and member number (along with your JetBlue member number) by 7/4 to participate. Be sure to send a screenshot from a non-mobile device and include your Virgin point balance that occurs twice on the screen as shown here:

virgin2

After getting confirmation from JetBlue, you just need to book and fly on any paid roundtrip or multi-city trip on JetBlue by 8/31 to earn 75K bonus JetBlue points as shown in the chart above!

The bonus points will post within 4-6 weeks after the flight.

What are those 75K JetBlue points worth?

If you have (or will open) a JetBlue Plus World Elite Mastercard then 75K points will be worth $1,200-$1,425 of JetBlue flights. Otherwise those points will be worth $1,125-$1,275 of JetBlue flights.

If you do participate it’s definitely worth signing up for the card for the 30K signup points, 10% rebate whenever you use points, 9-17 points per dollar on JetBlue, free checked luggage, 5,000 bonus points on every card anniversary, $100 cash back annually for spending $100+ on a JetBlue vacation, a 50% rebate for in-flight purchases, and no foreign transaction fees. If you spend $50K annually on the card you’ll also get Mosaic status which includes free changes and cancellations on JetBlue tickets for the Mosaic member and for everyone on their itinerary, 2 free checked bags, 15K bonus points for earning Mosaic status every year, free even more speed checkin and security access, early boarding, 3 additional points per dollar spent, free alcoholic beverages onboard, and a dedicated Mosaic 24/7 customer service line.

JetBlue points never expire. JetBlue also allows families to pool their points together.

What if you don’t have Virgin America points?

You can transfer Starpoints to Virgin America in less than 24 hours at a 20K:25K ratio. Even if you have no Virgin points currently, a transfer of 40,001 Starpoints would give you 50,001 Virgin America Elevate points to qualify for the highest offer.

Points also transfer from Citi or AMEX to Virgin America, but at a paltry 2:1 ratio rather than the 20K:25K ratio that Starwood offers.

Is it worth doing a transfer from Starwood?

Virgin America has a very valuable mileage currency. There are examples in this post and in this post. 50K points will be worth between $1,100-$1,400 of Virgin America flights. Or you can use points on partners like Singapore for a round-trip flight from JFK to Frankfurt for 20K points or Los Angeles to Tokyo for 40K points. There are great values for travel on Hawaiian and Virgin Australia as well.

Virgin points will never expire if you earn or use at least 1 point every 18 months.

If you get $1,200 of flights from those 50K Virgin points that came from 40K Starpoints, that’s a value 3 cents per Starpoint, a very solid deal by itself without the JetBlue promotion. Throw in the JetBlue promotion and it’s even more lucrative as 40K Starpoints plus a $66 JetBlue flight can turn into $1,200 of Virgin flights and $1,300 of JetBlue flights, a value of over 6 cents per Starpoint.

Don’t have Starpoints?

You can earn Starpoints on the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and on the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express.

Starwood normally sells Starpoints for 3.5 cents each, but you can buy Starpoints for 30% off through 7/1.  With this sale they are just 2.45 cents each. Points typically post to your account within an hour and you’ll need to logout and login to see them. Some people have reported that they were able to transfer purchased points to Virgin America even before they showed in their account balance.

If you you have 20,001 Starpoints already you can buy another 20K for $490 with this sale and then transfer them into 50,001 Virgin America points as 20,000 Starpoints converts into 25,000 Virgin America points and 40,000 Starpoints converts into 50,000 Virgin America points.

There is an annual maximum purchase of 30K Starpoints per account, so if you need 40K or 40,001 Starpoints you’ll need to have a friend buy Starpoints as well.

That friend can then transfer points into your Virgin America account. However you can only make 1 transfer to a Virgin America account per 24 hour period, so after transferring 20K (or 20,001+ points) from one Starwood account to Virgin America, you’ll need to wait 24 hours to do the 2nd transfer.

Is it worth it?

A round-trip JetBlue flight can be had for under $100 and even if you need to purchase the full 40K Starpoints for $980 or 40.5K Starpoints for $992 it’s still a great deal as you’ll wind up with points that are good for about $1,200 of Virgin America flights and about $1,300 of JetBlue flights.

    is there a market out there (do people buy them from you) for jetblue or virgin atlantic miles?

  2. moe

    How long does it take to get Jetblue confirmation?
    I sent them email a few days ago and still didnt hear back

  3. Cincinnatian

    Is it still worth doing if you live in a place where neither Jet Blue nor Virgin America operate?

  4. RG

    Will it work for flights already booked on Jetblue but not yet flown?

  5. Dan

    @ben89:
    Find people who need to fly and sell them points?

    @moe:
    They’re running a few days behind. You can try calling them as well.

    @Cincinnatian:
    Neither of them? Probably not.

    @RG:
    Officially it needs to be a new flight bought after registration.
    YMMV.

  6. mia flyer

    its all useless if jetblue wont send back the approval letters

  7. Spencer F

    Emailed my screenshot on 6/25 in the morning, received confirmation on 6/27 in the evening.

  8. Menachem

    can i transfer from my spg account to my wifes virgin america? spg just told me no. so, im creating an spg account for my wife so i transfer 40k from my spg account to hers. but they say the transfer wont be instant, it needs to wait 30 days to verify we live at same address? is that correct? any ideas?

  9. Dan

    @mia flyer:
    I got mine as did plenty of others.
    Have patience, they’re bogged down.

    @Spencer F:
    Nice!

    @Menachem:
    Yes, you can transfer Starpoints to anyone’s Virgin America account.

  10. Sameold

    Do I actually to need to fly this jetblue flight or can I just buy it and not fly?

  11. Bob

    Just got my registration email a minute ago from my Saturday application!

  12. Josh

    Can I do this for each family member that participates in a single family pool?

  13. joe

    Can I transfer 40,001 in one shot or I need to do 20k at a time to get the 5k bonus?

  14. Brian

    I’m interested in the business version of this card to help circumvent the 5/24 rule. Do you know if Barclays business cards show up as an account on your personal credit report?

  15. Dan

    @Brian:
    I believe Barclays business does report on personal credit reports.

  16. Mike

    Do you get Gold Status with Virgin America if you transfer the max points from SPG? and is it instant?

  17. Achshell

    Yes, not worth transferring to United, since Turkey Airport is not so safe…

  18. Mendy

    Will booking a jetblue flight through a third party site(priceline etc), count towards the flight needed?

  19. myi

    Even selling all the points would make you with a profit ,51k + 75k -paid flight=profit in your pocket! 😉

  20. Mike

    Can i transfer SPG points to my mothers(different address)elevate account and she can get the jetblue offer once she flies on the round-trip?

  21. yitz

    dan, i dont have a virgin account as of yet. can i still take advantage of this offer ? can chase points be transferred to virgin america or is it limited to amex or spg ?

  22. Melissa

    Will a multi city trip such as the following count: LAX–>JFK–>CHI? What are the terms for a multi city trip?

  23. mendy

    Will I qualify for bonus points if I use a Jetblue credit?

  24. Melissa

    If I book my jetblue flight today but I am not yet registered will the flight count for the promotion?

  25. Dan's the Man

    Is it ok if I book the roundtrip JetBlue flight for my wife on the same itinerary as mine? I have the JetBlue credit card and want us both to get the free bag so I need her to be booked on my itinerary. This will still count as her roundtrip for her to qualify for the Points Match, right?

  26. leif

    are there many data points confirming that it’s possible to transfer from an SPG account into a different person’s Elevate account?

  27. YY

    I don’t have Virgin America points and I don’t have Starwood Amex card.
    Does it pay to use my Amex rewards points to do this ?
    I guess that would be 100,002 rewards points to get the 50,001 Elevate points.
    or can I get better value for my Amex rewards points by itself ?

  28. Jay

    @YY: You are better off purchasing points from SPG

  29. Melissa

    One more question, do you think spending $300 on a Jetblue ticket is still worth it?

  30. howard bleier

    starwood says it takes 7-10 days to transfer points,It will not guarantee delivery before 7/4

  31. Rachel

    Can I buy the flight today even if I was not yet approved to the offer?
    (I don’t even have a virgin account yet, planning on transferring the SPG later today)

  32. YY

    I don’t have a SPG credit card and I don’t think I can get one before 7/1 purchase deal expires.
    so I am trying to figure out the value of my Amex Membership reward points vs. this deal

  33. sam

    Is there any reason why I should sign up for the personal jetblue card over the business one?

  34. Shlomo

    Would these jet blue miles be able to be used for a flight to Israel as it looks like they have some sort of partnership with EL AL

  35. Dan

    @Melissa:
    If you book it as a multi-city, yes.

    @mendy:
    You should.

    @Melissa:
    Not officially.

    @Dan’s the Man:
    That’s fine.

    @leif:
    Yes.

    @YY:
    You don’t need to Starwood AMEX to buy Starpoints.

    @Melissa:
    Yes.

    @howard bleier:
    What they say is meaningless.

    Hundreds of people have already done it and they’ve all received the points within a day.

    @Rachel:
    Not officially.

    @YY:
    You don’t need an SPG credit card to buy Starpoints.
    Just open a Starwood account on SPG.com. It’s free, no credit card required.

    @sam:
    What’s the difference?
    Barclays business cards report on your report just like consumer cards.

    @Shlomo:
    Currently they don’t have a mileage relationship, so no.
    But that may change in the future.

  36. Rachel

    Does a one way Jetblue trup qualify for this offer?

  37. Melissa

    I can book my trip as a multi city on priceline for both segments on Jetblue LAX–>JFK–>CHI but it does not work on the Jetblue website. Is that a red flag or nothing to worry about?

  38. Melissa

    On the phone with a jet blue rep who says that the terms she received from jet blue say that you can take two one way trips but then I had her look at the terms that consumers can see and now I am on hold while she is trying to connect to trueblue to find out the specific conditions ie whether two one ways would count or whether a multi city would count. The trouble for me is that flights are sparse from Chicago and more expensive so if I could make this specific itinerary work it would make it easier.

  39. aron

    Dan, do you have somewhere a mileage chart how Jetblue miles work? example JFK-FLL how much miles etc.

  40. Melissa

    Jetblue said you can take two one way trips to qualify but not to do a multi-city reservation.

  41. Dan

    @Rachel:
    Officially no, but phone reps are saying that 2 one-ways will work.
    YMMV.

    @Melissa:
    Really depends if it’s pricing as one ticket or 2.

    @aron:
    There is no chart. The points vary based on the price for the flight. You can search and see for yourself.

    “If you have (or will open) a JetBlue Plus World Elite Mastercard then 75K points will be worth $1,200-$1,425 of JetBlue flights. Otherwise those points will be worth $1,125-$1,275 of JetBlue flights.”

    @Melissa:

  42. YY

    #Dan looks like you cannot purchase if you just create an account today

    also it says you can only purchase 30k points a year

    on purchase page it says the following:

    Starpoint purchases can be made by members whose accounts have been active for a minimum of 14 days. Accounts that are less than the required 14 days in age will have the purchase attempt cancelled.

    Please Note: Cost is $.035 per point. Purchase up to 30,000 per account per calendar year; points are applicable toward all Starpoint awards but do not count toward elite status.

  43. mark

    Hi Dan,

    Am not member ofjetblue of virgin clubs. Do i need to have flown virgin, or can i just open up an account in each with no balance. thanks

  44. Dan

    @YY:
    Good to know.
    Find someone (or 2 people to by more than 30K) with an existing SPG account in that case.

    @mark:
    You can open them now.

  45. joe

    does a old screenshot of my virgin account work or got to be from this week or month?

  46. Lillian

    Hi dan
    I just called spg they told me it takes 14 days to tansfer points from spg to virgin is there a quicker way then to wait 14 days.
    Also I want to have my brother transfer me spg points to my spg account and they said it take 14 days can this be done quicker?

  47. Dan

    @joe:
    I haven’t seen any restrictions.

    @Lillian:
    Read the post.

    The transfer from SPG to Virgin America takes less than 1 day, regardless of what they say.

    And your brother can transfer directly to your Virgin account, no need to transfer Starpoints to you. But as the post says, you need to wait 24 hours from the last transfer from SPG to your Virgin account to make another transfer.

  48. Dovid

    If I open a Virgin account right now can I send them a screenshot right away or does there have to be some type of activity first?

  49. yitz

    Just to confirm (before I transfer SPG points) am I required to have a Jetblue credit card, or just an online account with them? Also, if the Jetblue and Virgin accounts are in my name, do I need to be the one flying or can my wife take the trip? Thanks

  50. Yosef Chaim

    Any age limit? Can I have an infant with the Vx and Jb accounts and the infant will fly.

    Can I use 1 large SPG and send to multiple VX accounts?

  51. Joe

    @Dan

    I followed all your instructions and did it for my whole family(!!), but I only now realized I sent the screenshot of the “My Account” page which shows the miles, full name and address, but on the Jetblue promo page it shows a slightly different sample image of a page to send a screenshot, their image/page only shows a first name etc. (which is the landing page), Do you still think it will be fine or do I need to resubmit to them?

    Thank you!

  52. Steven

    I sent the email 23 hours ago and I still have not heard back. I just called jetblue and they said they could not push it through over the phone and that it could take up to 72 hours to receive the confirmation email. The also said they wouldn’t allow me to book the round trip airfare today during the sale and still receive the bonus points until after I was approved. So I guess I just have to wait.

  53. Levip

    is it too late to start now (ie : open vigin account open jet blue account transfer starwood, wait for the points to be there, wait for email confirmation from jetblue. im afraid ill get that email after the dead line…)

  54. Dan

    @Yosef Chaim:
    Try opening a subaccount for kids under your JetBlue account.

    No issue with a big SPG account.

    @Joe:
    Should be fine.

    @Levip:
    There’s still time.

  55. Ben G

    Dan, i just opened a new Virgin Elevate account. Is there a minimum number of points that i need to show in the account in order for Jetblue to approve me? Would 500 points be enough?

  56. Joe

    I just transferred 40,000 starwood points.
    SPG says that it can take up to 10 business days, however a screenshot must be emailed to jetblue by 7/4.

    Anybody know what the actual wait time is for points to get to my virgin account???

  57. Melissa

    Can I transfer Starwood points from my husband’s account to my virgin account? Starwood says that I can not.

  58. Meir C

    Hey Dan, that’s strange because I transferred 40,001 SPG points from my account to Virigin and 5 minutes later transferred 40,001 to my wife’s Virgin account and they both posted this morning. So do you really need to wait 24 hrs??

  59. Melissa

    I called back several times and they keep saying the same thing. What should I do?

  60. Anonymous

    @Meir C: Did you do the transfer over the phone or online into your wife’s account? Every rep I speak to says that I can not transfer from my husband’s SPG account into my account because the names need to be identical. Thanks for your help! I feel like it is time to give up…

  61. BG

    Even with an AMEX transfer still seems ok, no? 70K reward points for 35K elevate points AND 50K Trueblue points. Otherwise I txfr it to Jetblue anyway for 56K trueblue. Can one get good Virgin America deals NY-FLL?

  62. Dan

    @Anonymous:
    Do it online.

    @BG:
    Better off buying the SPG points. That’s a poor use of AMEX points.

  63. Yosef Chaim

    @Dan So if I’m doing it for me and 5 kids, I should make 1 account and 5 subaccounts and I’ll get all 6 promos?

  64. sam

    72 hours passed since submission…still nothing from jetblue

  65. ae

    starwood is a little disfunctional: I called once rep said virgin isnt transferable. called again new rep says it is but it def would take at LEAST 7 days if not more.called again. now rep says it is def possible to transfer earlier than 7 days but since its done manually(man-operated as opposed to computer operated) it could take longer….but getting the bonus 5k per 20k transfer can only be done once every 24 hrs so all id get for transferring 40k is 45k not 50.called again. new rep says virgin isnt on their list of transfers(!!).called again and finally she said all the right stuff: virgin transfers,can be earlier than 7 days,doesnt need 24 hrs per 20k.:)
    got an email saying it would transfer within 4-6 days:)….and it transferred in less than 24 hrs:)).
    starwood has got to put themselves together here!

  66. Dan

    @Yosef Chaim:
    Sure.

    @ae:
    Lesson being, listen to what I say, not what underpaid and undertrained phone reps say.

  67. Yosef Chaim

    @Dan So I can put 1 large transfer SPG into the main account and then have each subaccount draw 40k from the main account? (Like British)

  68. Yaakov

    Is there an annual fee to open the jet blue credit card?

  69. Yosef Chaim

    @Yaakov Not the CC. An FF acc.

  70. mark

    do any places buy jetblue miles, and for what rate ?

    do they buy virgin america ? I want to switch my chase miles to virgin and then switch to virgin america, but dont want chase miles to become devalued

  71. Melissa

    I put in for the transfer online. The reps are really uninformed. First they would not transfer to my name from my husband’s account. I couldn’t find a way around that because they wouldn’t do it and the system wouldn’t do it either. But then they told me they also only transfer in increments of 1,000 which I knew was absurd. So I made the transfer of 40,001 online to my husbands account. It says it went through and I am waiting for the points to show up on Virgin. My question is, do you have any recommendations for cheapest and shortest flights from Chicago?

  72. Hannah

    After I get confirmation from jet blue, how long do I have to PURCHASE the ticket to be flown before August 31?

  73. Mark

    Is it a problem if my virgin account is missing my last name? apparently when I opened my account a few years ago I used my middle initial as my last name, I already transferred into elevate points and sent the screenshot, will the missing last name be a problem?

  74. Meir C

    I signed up my wife and I. Can I sign up our kids also (who are 3 and 4)? So they can take advantage of this promotion. If so, do I create a spectate Virgin America account for them? What about jet blue account ? Thanks

  75. ikey a

    on spg.com it says the transfer points from spg to virgin is only 1:1, is that an error?

  76. Mark

    Still no confirmation, is it possible to receive confirmation after the 4th? And if so what’s the deadline to book the round trip ticket? I actually need to book a round trip ticket but waiting for jet blue confirmation.

  77. Eric

    Hmm, I transferred 20,000 points from SPG to Virgin over 24 hours ago and it did not post yet. Is there perhaps a backlog b/c so many people are trying to do this at the same time?

  78. Deal guy

    Data Point: Did TY To Virgin transfer. Posted less than 10 hours.

  79. deal guy

    @Deal guy:

    Sent JB info and got the confirmation email within 30 minutes. YMMV. may have gotten lucky it was so fast

  80. Anyone getting this??

    postmaster_spam@jetblue.com
    The e-mail address you entered couldn’t be found. Please check the recipient’s e-mail address and try to resend the message. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.

  81. Melissa

    My SPG points posted to my virgin account within 24 hours.

  82. Gubevo

    For some reason my birgin points balance doesn’t show together with my last name only my first name. They emailed me back that i don’t meet the requirements. Is there anything to do?

  83. Melissa

    Got my confirmation from Jet blue within the hour!! Thanks Dan!

  84. DAVIDMAL

    @Dan

    ALERT!!!!!
    URGENT!!!!

    they told me on the phone they would honor the transfer and expedited mine!

    but future people will NOT be approved because of the way they transferred the points in and NOT earned – (don’t know how she knows that?)

    but she said they will honor mine as as a courtesy
    she said other applications coming in are going to be denied!!!

  85. Steve

    @DAVIDMAL: They would not help me on the phone yesterday and said I had to wait for the e-mail. Any tips to get them to expedite it on the phone? Thanks

  86. Dave

    I have 50,000 spg points how should I go about with it

  87. JMS

    Trying to transfer to my wife’s Elevate account from my SPG account. Transferred yesterday to my Elevate account, but it’s been more than 24 hours. Getting this error from SPG:
    “We’re sorry, but a temporary error has occurred. Please try your request again. If you need assistance, please call 888-625-5144 in the U.S. or Canada, or contact one of our Worldwide Reservations Offices.”

    What’s that about?

  88. Ben

    Do I need to have a jet blue account to do it ?? How do I get one if yes ?? And is it too late to sign up (I have spg points …)

  89. @Ben

    Yes, you need a JetBlue TrueBlue account. Open one up at JetBlue.com. If you’re confident SPG points will post to VA in time to do the rest, then go for it. If not, it may be too late.

  90. Rochel

    Am I too late? Or can I open a virgin american account now, transfer starwoods, send a screenshot and buy a ticket – all today- to get in on this?
