I got the invitation and enrolled and got Platinum status, now I booked a flight with avios on American the representative told me that I am not eligible for upgrades due to it being a award ticket is that correct?
Yes, you can’t use AA 500 mile upgrade certs on awards.

How can you have two accounts? I tried opening a second account and with a different email address and they said that there’s an existing account under this name.

Didn’t get it on my account. Is there a chance if I open a new AAdvantage account for my wife, she could get it? Or it’s only for existing accounts.
It is funny I am the one that travels all the time. A few years ago I get offered Gold status, my wife that does not fly at all gets offered an Executive Platinum and she didn’t take a single flight. The marketing people at AA need to get their target better their promotions…
When I “traveled all the time” my 130,000 miles a year on AA gave me EXP. You must be stuck using a time of airlines if you travel all the time and don’t have Plat. Bummer
If you get the 500 mile upgrades make sure to use them while you have status. If/when you lose your status you can no longer redeem the 500 mile upgrades, though you will still retain the upgrades in your account.
