Update, 12/23: American has just added 4 systemwide upgrades valid through 1/31/21 to my account! Check your AA.com wallet to find yours. Thanks Hyatt!

Update 12/23: American just updated my status to Executive Platinum through 1/31/21! Alas, at least immediately, there were no systemwide upgrades given, but hopefully they’ll come soon!

Were you able to get Executive Platinum from this offer?

After Marriott’s murder of the Starwood Preferred Guest program, Hyatt is the last remaining hotel brand that still offers excellent loyalty benefits and valuable points.

Top tier Globalist elite status offers confirmable suite upgrade certificates and Globalists get free breakfast, lounge access, waived resort fees, a free category 1-7 night, and even free parking on award stays. Globalists also get a dedicated concierge that you can call or email for account or reservation help. You can earn top-tier status from spending on the Chase World Of Hyatt Credit Card. See this post for more on earning status from spending.

Back in May, Hyatt introduced reciprocal benefits with American Airlines.

I didn’t think much of the partnership at the time, but some Globalists got phone calls from their concierge about being targeted for AA Executive Platinum status.

I emailed my concierge asking if I could also get AA Executive Platinum status. She left me a voicemail asking that I call her back. I called her back and she said that they can’t do any status matches over email, but that I was now enrolled for Executive Platinum status!

She said my account would be updated within 2 weeks and the status would be valid through 1/31/21!

You can view the benefits of Executive Platinum status here.

I’m not sure how much use I’ll get from the status as I already have United Global Services status and strongly prefer flying United to American, but if nothing else I’ll enjoy free award redeposits using AA miles as much as I do using United miles 😀

Maybe I’ll even use the systemwide upgrades to fly AA to London again 😀

Or not 😉

At any rate, thanks Hyatt!

Were you given Executive Platinum status from having Hyatt Gloablist status?

WHAT ARE THE ODDS OF THIS WORKING IF I’M DISCOVERIST. CAN I PRETEND I’M A BIG HOTEL STAYER ELSEWHERE OR WILL THEY RESEARCH IT OR JUST GIVE ME aa PLATINUM.

  2. Ornit Mandell

How to get in touch with my Hyatt concierge ?

  3. Elliot Beyda

Does Hyatt do status match? I’m Ambassador with Marriott and would l ok be to try them.

  4. Gary

Dan, Why do prefer united to AA? Doesn’t AA have a much newer fleet?

    • Dan

I’ve written many times why, but primarily I’m pretty much always delayed or cancelled on AA and they refuse to rebook on other carriers.

No idea, but why does average fleet age have anything to do with preferred airline??

      • ChiliPalmer

Matters because those 787s with reverse herringbone that AA has are about the nicest around.

        • Dan

I prefer Polaris bulkhead to reverse herringbone.

I am GOLD with Hilton. Can i have Hyatt Status match my hilton status and then check for aa status ?

  6. Juryduty

What can I get status matched from AA Executive Platinum

  7. Joe4007

Don’t get too excited about free award redeposits. You might just get Barto on your account.

    • Dan

      That guy still alive?
How many redeposits have been reported to lead to audit?

      Another reason to prefer UA…

      • Dan

He’s the Darth Vador of miles.

  8. Don

Hey @Dan thanks for the info share. I am a globalist as well. I just called in and was told it was a targeted offer sent to people specified by AA. Do you know if your concierge was able to make this happen for you? Or did they just apply the promotion to your account because you where considered targeted.

    • Dan

No idea, but I wasn’t told I was targeted until I asked.
And all of my Hyatt “nights” are from cc spend or awards, so I’m not exactly a valuable customer.

My concierge is great though, so not surprised she pulled though for me!

      • Don

I have never used mine. I will try and take that route because so far I’m 0 for 2. Thanks! Will update with my data point once I’ve seen this through.

        • Dan

Concierge is great, she’s arranged for some nice surprises on our stays!

          • Elias

I need your concierge LOL. Mine is terrible. Not only she is ignoring my calls and emails about the promo for days but she never did any surprise for my bookings, not even for my anniversary and she knew.

One time a property charged me twice and I contacted her to resolve the issue and she pretty much told me she didnt care.

          • Dan

Ouch. Maybe ask Hyatt if you can get a new concierge?

      • Jake

Does that mean you spend 125,000 a year on the cc?!?!

        • Dan

No, as award nights and free certificate nights count towards status.

          • Werty

So how much do you put on the card? Does it makes sense to do that amount as opposed to spending on a 1.5 points per dollar card?

          • Chevron

Well it depends, because while the 1.5 is better base rewards, the Hyatt spend also will get you free nights, like my card got me a free night on 15k spend plus 6 nights to status. That was worth more than the 7500 I’d have gotten using freedom unlimited and transferring.

Likewise when you reach 30 nights you get a free night. So for me that spend of about 20k = 2 free nights, 20k Hyatt points and status.

Also had a 5x offer on utility etc and paid my auto insurance with the card.

  9. Global Guy

Hi Dan! I’ve been a UA 1K for approx 20 years and will have 2.5mil lifetime this year.
I spent exactly what’s required to qualify 1K ($15k this year. $18k next)

Any way to get Global Services out of United without big spending?

    Thanks so much!

  10. D

If I earn globalist or other hyatt status how long does it last? Is there any way to get lifetime status?

    • Dan

If you earn it in January 2020 it would expire 2/28/22.
You would need to earn 1MM base points (via spending $200K at Hyatt hotels) to earn lifetime Globalist.

      • Dk

What about with Marriott is there any way to get status with just spend and no stays? Hilton? Lifetime for both ? Status match?

      • Cook

How does it add up? 4x per $ for Hyatt spend per your Chase Hyatt card post…?

  11. ChiliPalmer

    You mentioned using the SWUs.

Are you sure that AA is providing them as part of this promotion?

  12. Y

Best part of this post is the use of the word murder in the first line.
That alone should make the decision makers in these ompanies rethink killing off all these benefits.

  13. Sarah

I also received the offer from my concierge and although, like you, I don’t use the one world alliance very much, maybe I will try a flight or two as I am mostly in Europe and Tel Aviv, plus the redeposit an possibility of upgrades with no charge was nice. But also I have been lifetime gold for many years when a ,Illinois Miles was something, so maybe I was targeted because of that.

  14. Joe

    Globalist here.
I called my concierge and she said there is no such program and there is no list for anything to do with AA EP status.
She suggested I call AA and ask.
I tried to inform her of the information in this (and similar) articles but she was adamant that nothing like that existed.
    Oh well.

  15. Nate

I called my hyatt concierge and she knew what i was talking about .said let me check the list and came back 30 seconds later and confirmed i was on the list and said let me sign you up an…2 min later confirmed and said it will take up 2 weeks and was very easy….will confirm when get updated to ep!!

    Thank you dan

  16. Cook

Does spend earned on any Hyatt card qualify towards lifetime status? It needs to be a particular version? And does spend accumulate across different Hyatt cards (biz and personal) if associated with the same account? Do sign up points also go towards lifetime?

  17. Jack

I am a globalist and called my concierge after seeing your post. I was told that I was on the list and my status just updated today. Thanks!

  18. ken

SWU post one day after your Exec Plat status is updated. Dan, check again tomorrow.

  19. Chris

I would be very interested in some tips/strategy to maximize value on the SWU. My traveling party is 1 exec platinum and 2 family members. Have plenty of American and avios.

  20. azhoopsfan
