Hyatt credit cardholders can register here to get 20% of their points back when they redeem them for stays through 07/31/15.

Unfortunately you can’t go out and apply for the Hyatt card now. In order to register you had to have already had the card as of 01/31/15.

-Receive 20% back on the Hyatt Gold Passport points you redeem for award stays, points + cash, suite upgrades, and dining and spa activities.
-Registration will remain open until 03/31/15.
-Redemptions must be made between 02/17-07/31 to get 20% back, so if you have a previous reservation you’ll want to cancel and rebook it assuming that you are outside of the cancellation window and there is still award space for your stay. Hyatt has clarified that you don’t need to rebook.
-Stays must be completed by 07/31, so if you are staying from the end of July and into August you’ll want to split up that award into 2 reservations.
-Points redeemed for Avis car rental certificates or points transferred to airline partners are not eligible for this promotion.
-Please allow 4-6 weeks after your points redemption has been completed for your bonus Hyatt Gold Passport points to be loaded into your account.

You can determine the category of every Hyatt hotel via this link.  Just toggle the category number to view other categories and expand the regions on the bottom to include hotels in the Asia/Pacific region or the Europe, Africa & Middle East region.

When booking a points+cash reservation I included a metric in the chart above that shows the rate that you’re effectively buying your points back at.

You’ll notice that points+cash stays are a worse value with the 20% off chart. That’s because you only get 20% of your points back, not the cash used.

The category 6 rate is normally the biggest points+cash bargain. You “buy” back or save 12.5K points per night for $150. Effectively you paid just 1.2 cents per point ($150/12,500) to save those 12.5K points per night. The category 1 and 7 points + cash deals are normally the worst as you are effectively paying 2 cents per point.
With 20% off the category 6 rate falls to 1.5 cents per point and the category 7 rate falls all the way to 2.5 cents per point.

Note that standard awards have no blackouts or capacity controls on standard rooms and suites. However points+cash reservations are capacity controlled. A nice benefit of points+cash rooms is that they are considered a paid rate, so they qualify for all promotions that apply to paid hotel stays and you can use a diamond suite upgrade certificate to confirm them into a suite.

Suite nights require a 3 night minimum stay and can only be booked over the phone.

Points+Cash nights can also only be booked over the phone.

    @DealGuy:
    If you didn’t have an active card as of 01/31 then you’re out of luck.

  3. Sam

    I was approved for te card on jan 25 but didnt activate until feb 9th – think im eligible?

  4. dm

    The specific connection to the Hyatt card seems unclear to me – is it as a pre-condition to registering (only?) for the promotion? Do all “points” stays qualify for the 20%, or just those where the points come directly from the Hyatt card account? Would stays booked on points transferred from Ultimate Rewards qualify? THANKS

  5. Dan

    @Sam:
    Did you try to register?

    @dm:
    As long as you had a Hyatt card on 01/31 then you will get 20% of your points back regardless of where the points came from.

    “This Hyatt Gold Passport account number is not eligible to participate in this promotion.”???
    I’ve had my hyatt card for three years now, always in good standing.

  7. HelpMe

    Any chance rooms already booked and staying within the window will get the 20% off?

  8. Anonymous

    @mimi: I got the same message, use your Hyatt number, not the CC number.

  9. anonymous

    if I make a reservation with someone elses hyatt points who has the card. will I get the savings? and could I use their points under my name?

  10. zilara

    will this work for hyatt zilara as well?

  11. DFW

    The T&C seem to indicate that this may apply to previously booked reservations? The promotion is open to all ‘redemptions’ — ‘Only points redeemed between 2/17/2015 and 7/31/2015 will be eligible for this promotion’ — within the specified time period…wouldn’t those qualify?

  12. Ali

    Can’t find any real availability for nicer hyatts (Residence Clubs in California, Colorado) around US. Search should the cost in points and actual rate, once I click on “Find Rates” it gives a red message saying there is no availability under Gold Passport Points….”
    Also, I did not see the 20% discount posted anywhere.

    Anyone who books recently WITH the 20% discount in redemption, PLEASE Post!!!

  13. DFW

    Regarding previously booked reservations – nevermind.

    @NFLFan0521 As long as your stay dates are within the promotional period you will earn the 20% point rebate. You won’t need to rebook! ^BS

    I am a little confuse about cash + points redemption. I will pick hyatt Category 5 as an example: If you chose to pay 10,000 points and $125 cash and hyatt only charge you 8,000 (after the 20%) + $125. Should that save you 12,000 points?

  16. Kevin

    The reason I asked the above question is; let say you book a cat 5 with cash + point, Hyatt will deduct 10,000 points upfront, you will need pay the cash portion when at the hotel. Fast forward 4-6 weeks later. I assumed Hyatt load 2,000 points (20%) into my account right? Or will they deduct 2,000 points from my account?

  17. Kevin

    Ok, I think I understand now. In reference back to cat 5 hotel, with points I am getting 4,000 points back, with cash+points, I only get 2,000 points back. Since I still have an Diamond Suite upgrade expire soon. I will go with cash+points route.

    Dan – What you meant to say is…This is almost like getting a Cat 6 Club Room upgrade for free! (Time for a new chart showing Club Room rates?)

    Hey Dan, you ought to update this to remove the line
    “-Redemptions must be made between 02/17-07/31 to get 20% back, so if you have a previous reservation you’ll want to cancel and rebook it assuming that you are outside of the cancellation window and there is still award space for your stay.”

    The official word from Hyatt is that reservations booked before Feb 17th, but that fall within the promotion period will still get the 20% back (you do not need to rebook). You simply have to register for the promotion.

    I confirmed this with two separate phone agents this morning, who said this was a common question yesterday and that their supervisors have confirmed. In addition I see a couple people here have already tweeted them, and their official reply is that those reservations made before 2/17 do not need to be re-booked.
