Remember to travel responsibly and take precautions as suggested by your local authorities to avoid spreading the virus.

Disclaimer #2: American’s can’t currently fly to Canada as their final destination, but they can connect in Canada and stay in sterile transit on the way to another country. Canadians are allowed to fly to America, but they will have to quarantine upon return.

While Air Canada has chosen to stiff customers holding cancelled flights and pick a fight with the DOT, their Aeroplan mileage program has been on a roll.

That’s not a surprise given that 2 of my favorite former Continental executives, Scott O’Leary and Mark Nasr are running the loyalty show there now that they are bringing Aeroplan back in house, but I’ll talk more about them in another post.

Note that Air Canada will reveal a brand new Aeroplan program on July 28th. Whether they will announce good news or bad, it’s worth booking travel now as you can cancel awards for travel on any date for free, as long as you do so by 8/31. That way if prices go up you are locked in, and if they go down you can just rebook for free!

Aeroplan has also added new partners in Azul and Etihad, offered dirt cheap miles with elite status to boot, offered a 50% mileage rebate for domestic flights, offered free infant award tickets, extended their mileage expiration policy.

The good times keep rolling and they are now they’re launching an excellent summer promotion. You need to register for it here.

Here’s hoping that Aeroplan will become the most valuable mileage program in North America when it relaunches next week!

What does AC fly YYZ-TLV in buisness? 777?

    • Dan

787-9 in direct aisle access/reverse herringbone.

  2. Avi

Any fuel surcharge on AC metal

    • eli

      yyz-tlv?
add $529 unfortunately if im not msitaken

  3. @Yehudaa

Have they said that they’ll be revealing any details to the general public next week, or is it just a media event by invite only with signed NDA’s?

  4. Eli

Would love to take advantage of this, but as an American are there any countries that I can travel to on AC metal that doesn’t have a mandatory quarantine?

  5. FrequentFlyer

Does the person flying have to be the aeroplan member or can I book a flight for my wife and still take advantage of this?

      • FrequentFlyer

Bringing her back. But just by way of an update, i spoke with aeroplan. They said “Only the person flying can earn up to 150% on a revenue booking. If you are booking an Aeroplan reward flight, you can get up to 40% miles back even if you are not the passenger.”

  6. More Bang for your Buck

When does AC start flying to TLV? How have they been with cancelling flights so far?

    “On the burning side”

    Love it!

  8. WhiteSocks

Would like to read more about the launching of the new mileage program

  9. Ploni3

It is on the Aeroplan site as a welcome banner, now.

  10. zow

YQ seems prohibitive on AC. For example, with the 28k flight in Y, the fees are $364 CAD.

  11. Dov

Market Fare is booked under a revenue fare but you wont earn miles for the flight

The example for Aug,23 YYZ TLV considering the tax which is $364CAD (270USD) in Economy (Market Fare) and paid Fare is $451 The redemption cash saving is only $181, plus paid fare you will earn 5,776 Miles in K Class under the current 100% promo

In Premium Economy (Saver Awards) tax is 409CAD (304USD) and paid fare is $873 The redemption cash saving is $569, plus paid fare will earn 15,884 miles in N class under the current 150% promo

The plus side booking with Aeroplan in this case would be the free cancellation until departure

  12. Moish

@Dan how does AC Business compare to El AL and Unites Polaris?

  13. bob

Do flights have to be booked through air canada?

Or can I boom through Chase Points and add AP number and get the points bonus.

  14. John

If a person flew in Sunday on a paid ticket anyway of getting the extra points

  15. Ben

Might be missing something, but dont the fees make it almost not worth it?
I’m seeing taxes and fees of about 750 cad round trip, and booking it straight on air canada all cash is about 1100 cad (Sunday, August 16th, 2020 -Monday, August 24th, 2020 as an example)

  16. mileagejunkie

Can now cancel until Oct. 16th.
