If you buy $100+ in Visa, Mastercard, Or AMEX gift cards from Staples between 12/07 and 12/13 you can send in an Easy Rebate online to get a bonus $15 Staples gift card.

This is valid in-store only.  Officially there is a limit of 1 rebate per household.

The Visa gift cards are the easiest to cash out.

You can check your AMEX account to see if you were also targeted for $20 off $100 at Staples.  You can pay for a $200 gift card with 2 targeted AMEX cards, which will net you $40 back from AMEX and the $15 Staples gift card.

Otherwise if you buy a $200 Visa gift card in store you’ll pay $6.95 in card fees. Use your Chase Ink Plus or Chase Ink Cash card and get 5 points per dollar spent. That’s 1,035 points for a $206.95 purchase. In addition if you’re registered at visasavingsedge.com you’ll also get 1% cash back.

$206.95 (Outlay)
-$2.07 (1% cash rebate)
=$204.88 out of pocket for $200 face value
-As usual with Ink you’ll get 1,035 points (worth $18.11 at a 1.75 cents per point value).
-This week you’ll also get a $15 Staples gift card via easy rebate just to sweeten the deal even more.

Even without the $15 Staples gift card the argument can be made to buy gift cards from Staples for your everyday spending.

Say you spend $2,000 on everyday spend.  On a typical card earning points or cash back worth 2% you would save $40.

If you bought $2,000 in Visa gift cards for $2,069.50 you’ll get a 1% cash rebate of $20.70, dropping your cost down to $2,048.80. Additionally you’ll earn 10,348 points that are worth $181.09 at a 1.75 cents per point value.  After backing out the $48.80 it cost to buy those gift cards you’ll still left with a $132.29 profit, or more than triple the rewards you would earn from other cards.  It’s an effective rebate of 6.61% everywhere you shop.

Even if you only value the points at 1.6 cents each that would value the 10,348 points at $165.57, leaving a profit of $116.77 or an effective rebate of 5.84% everywhere.

Want to just cash out the Visa gift card instead of using it for everyday purchases?

The pin on the Visa gift card is the last 4 digits of the card number, no need to set anything.
-You can load up to $5,000 per month onto a Target AMEX REDCard for free.
-You can cash out the Visa cards using EvolveMoney to pay bills like your mortgage, property tax, auto loan, health insurance, store charge card (Gap, Macy’s, Target, etc).  There is no fee for this but you can only make 1 payment per biller per month month.
-You can load Visa cards to your Serve card with a Family Dollar cashier for no fee (though some stores won’t do this)
-You can load Visa cards to your Bluebird or Serve card at a WalMart ATM machine for no fee.
-You can load Visa cards to your Bluebird or Serve card with a WalMart cashier or customer service for no fee.  Just say you want to use your debit card, no need to mention that it’s a gift card.
-You can buy a money order with the Visa card at any store that accepts debit cards as payment (except the post office).  Such stores exist even in manufactured spend deserts like NYC.
-You can pay your credit card bill at WalMart with BillPay at Customer Service.
-You can swipe the card on an Amazon card reader for a 1.75% fee.
-You can gift a Visa gift card as a wedding gift instead of giving a check.
-You can… ;)

Is there anyway I can confirm if I am registered with visa savings edge

  2. Eric Gottlieb

Can you use the staples gift card to buy more gift cards at staples? Is there a better way to use the staples gift cards?

DAN, I need to buy 50 gift cards (visa or amex) with value of $100 each. I have an amex platinum. What’s best way ? Thank so much. Tizku lemitzvot

  4. Unclear

@ Dan Is this a $15 Staples Giftcard which can only be used at Staples or a $15 Visa Card (from Staples). I dont think you can upload Staples giftcards onto Redcard or Serve cards…

  5. Dumb

Dan, why do you not recommend buying a $200 card and splitting the payment to get the amex credit with a cheaper method?

  6. yaakov

Is the one rebate per household rule enforced?

  7. jacksassonbk

    @dan

according to the link you provided, you can ALSO purchase $300 in VISA gift cards and get $20 back.

you may want to update OP

and FYI, this is a $20 VISA GIFT card (sweet deal! make profit and points :))

  10. mike

I read the red card post. How can we fund gift cards to the red card? Would the cashier’s allow multiple card swipes in one transaction?

  11. chevi

I need to spend a few thousand dollars quickly for my new ink bold card. I want to just buy visa/amex gift cards at staples to take care of it. Will staples/the credit card allow me to purchase a few thousand dollars of gift cards at once? Or are there issues with doing that?

  12. Ron

@jacksassonbk: Nope, that’s only for a purchase in October. Read the details… Would’ve been nice, though…

  13. mike

    @chai
I purchased 20 gift cards online in separate transaction sanctions, and they all have been shipped with no issues.

    How does visasavingedge work?
I signed up a few months ago, but i don’t see any extra 1% on my visa ink statement for staples purchases etc? just the regular 1 X or 4 X points?

  15. Bruce

I need to spend a few thousand dollars to meet a threshold can I but gift cards from staples and then load it on to bluebird is there a limit ? or can i jist pay bill directly at Walmart us?

  16. Benny

Can I use gift cards to pay bill at bill pay at Walmart ?

  17. A

What is “You can…”? At least a hint…

  18. Mark

I thought the Amex offer is only for Staples.com? Has anyone had success using them in-store?

  19. Abe

What is the closest Walmart to NYC that has the right ATM machine? I hate to wait in the long lines at the cashier and then hold up the line while I load the bluebird

  20. luckyluck

CMIIW but from recent experience, at least some Walmart stores have their system rejecting gift cards (Metabank) from loading onto BB and even for buying money orders. YMMV

  21. tzvi s

@motty: it shows as a negative adjustment in the activity of your account say you spent 206.95 you’ll have a negative adjustment of 2.0695

  22. Trader18

Is it only 1 per household ?

  23. Trader18

Let me rephrase- is the $15 staples rebate just for one household?u can still by more Visa cards using blue ink to get 5 to 1 points. Correct?

  24. Mendel

Sorry if this was asked already. You wrote
“You can pay for a $200 gift card with 2 targeted AMEX cards, which will net you $40 back from AMEX and the $15 Staples gift card.”

How can i pay with one order of a $200 visa gift card with 2 different targeted Amex cards?

  25. HT

“Get a $15 Staples gift card” weekly flyer says “buy by MAIL”

  26. Bethwooh

@Dan. I noticed that either office max or office Depot us running similar offer with the Amex cards today. I need to meet spending requirements ASAP so I was wondering if there are ways to cash out the amex cards like visa ones?

  27. Joseph

Any thoughts on buying REDcard off Ebay? I don’t have REDcard available in my state (or anywhere close)

  28. Dk23

Also should mention the Amex offer for staples

  29. Jason Smith

@Abe, you need a Walmart that has a moneypass ATM – the Walmart in Kearney, NJ has one but it is almost always not working; the Walmart in Edison, NJ has one and it works most of the time, the Walmart in Valley Stream, NY (Long Island) is listed as having one although I have never been there. Please, when loading your Bluebird DO NOT try to load a full $500 visa gift card on at once, that will just lock up the machine and require a manager override and then you will get questioned on what you are doing. Instead, split it into 2 separate loads of $250.

  30. Queen Esther

    1. staples states 1 per family/ household
staples is known to black addrsses that do not follow t & c
they may do IP. Not sure about this.
    2. total each account would get is for ONE $100 value, so additional value no extra GC.
    3. Get back staples GC good only for staples merchandise! no GCs.

  31. bob

loading giftcards to serve at wallmart is becoming a major pain in the neck. most cashiers refuse to load it. (info from today in NJ)

  32. Anonymous

@Joseph: bought a few preregistered ones, worked out fine

  33. Lee

@chevi: Staples won’t allow you to purchase more than $2K in a single transaction, so because of the fees, you can only purchase 9 x $200 GC ($1862.55). Better to go with the Visa ones, as they are easier to cash out.
Also, be prepared, a transaction like this will require manager approval (almost always) and you will be asked for ID.

For the others that were unclear – THIS promotion is for a Staples gift card – which can be used at Staples only.

  34. read the post

    @LEE

This promotion is not only to be used at staples, this can be used to upload to Bluebird card etc.

  35. Mark

1.75 for UR? Which generationdo you live in? Lol.

  36. Dan

    @Mendel:
Ask a cashier to split the tender.

    @Mark:
If you’re not getting 1.75 value on your flights then you need to learn how to play the game.

  37. Noob

I hope this thread is still alive, dan, do I have make separate $100 transactions to receive an easy rebate for each (assuming I have multiple “households”) or can it all be one transaction?

  38. webi

    dan,
do i get the 5x points if i buy the giftcards on staples.com?

  39. Rich

I went to Visasavingsedge.com and it said to enter the first six digits of Gift Card to see if eligible. I entered two different Visa gift cards I purchased at Staples and it says that they are not eligible for rebate. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

  40. HelpMe

@Rich: They want the Credit Card you used not the Gift Card you bought.

  41. Rich

Thanks very much HelpMe–unfortunately my Ink card is a Mastercard.
