Update: DEAD!

Staples is waiving the $6.95 purchase fee on $200 Mastercard gift cards through 4/30. This is valid in-store only.

The weekly ad states that there is a limit of 5 per customer per day, though the fee waiver should apply on up to 10 cards per transaction if your store isn’t a stickler for limits.

Use your Chase Ink Cash Card or Ink Plus card and get 5 points per dollar spent. Office supply stores never charge a fee for retailer gift cards such as Amazon and hundreds more, but these Visa gift cards can be used anywhere!

Buying these gift cards can help you meet the spend threshold to earn the highest ever 75,000 point signup bonus for Ink Cash on top of earning 5 points per dollar spent.

The IRS recently lost a case trying to tax a couple that bought millions of dollars in Visa gift cards, which they subsequently cashed out in order to earn 5% cash back. The court ruled that rebates for gift card purchases are not taxable.

If you buy a $200 Mastercard gift card you’ll earn 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points by charging it to an Ink Cash card. If you use your points at an average value of 2 cents each, then that’s like getting $20 back!

MetaBank issued Mastercard gift cards use the last 4 digits of the card as the PIN number. You can use them to buy money orders at various grocery stores and gas stations.

Or you can donate the gift card to charity and get a receipt for the full face value.

Or you can give away a gift card as a wedding or Bar Mitzvah gift.

Or you can always use it for everyday spending while earning 5% or 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar everywhere!

Can a purchase of these Mastercard gift cards be used towards the bonus spend requirement for the new Chase United Quest Mileage Plus Visa credit card?

Able to use Amex gold when buying to reach SUB amount needed?

NO, probably not. AMEX has Level 3 data from Staples, which means they will know you bought a Visa/MC gift card, and the RAT team have been known to deny bonuses if the MSR was met using gift card purchases.
