In 2015 Amazon announced their own “Black Friday in July” with their Amazon Prime Day Sale. The first sale was relatively weak and people complained that the deals weren’t competitive compared Black Friday. However last year they delivered strong sitewide discounts on Prime Day.
Last month Walmart started offering small in-store pickup discounts ranging from 20 cents to a few dollars off products. That set off a price war between Amazon and Walmart. Products in a price war go into an ongoing downward price spiral as Amazon keeps matching the Walmart’s in-store price and then Walmart lowers their price until they sell out. That has made for some great deals.
Since last night Walmart has increased the in-store pickup discount on some items to as much as 82% of the cost of the product, on top of already discounted pricing. Clearly they are tired of Amazon’s matching game and are taking things to a whole new level. But Amazon is now matching some of those discounts as well and we are seeing incredible prices that easily beat out many Black Friday deals.
It’s hard to say how this war will end, but current pricing is completely unsustainable, so be sure to take advantage of these deals while you can.
If you don’t have a Walmart near you, it may be worth ordering several deals to your nearest Walmart. If you find enough bargains you may find it worthwhile to schlep over there. If you don’t pickup your order by the pickup deadline you will be automatically refunded for the order. Of course if Amazon price matches your item, you can cancel the Walmart order and have it shipped to your door from Amazon.

Many people who live in Brooklyn don’t realize how close Walmart in Valley Stream is. 20-25 minutes if traffic is good. That’s like the trip from Flatbush to Boro Park.
I can’t tell you how many people are surprised to hear I go to Walmart because they are so conditioned to the fact that NYC doesn’t have any.

I wish they did not limit these to one. I just picked up the 4 pack of resin chairs for 19 and could have used 8 instead of just the 4 chairs. Same with the $16 folding rocker – wanted another for the AC.
