    They’ve figured out that people will pay a small premium for Windows 7.
    I know I would.

  2. EZ

    @Dan: With classic shell there is no need for win7

    Also supposedly win 8.1 fixes most issues but I have not installed it so I cannot say.

  3. Accountant

    what’s the difference between Windows 7 “Home” vs. “Premium” ?

  4. Savingsbigtime

    Does a .edu email add give you with this a $200 gift card ?

  5. cbkcc1

    @accountant, @Accountant: windows 7 home premium is the name. the next step up would be professional and would be for use in a business environment.

  6. Simple

    Does this come with a screen?

  7. Dan

    @Simple:
    No, but you can get a good screen for $100-$125 elsewhere.

    @Jacky:
    That’s the same deal but with Windows 8.
    If you add Windows 7 it makes it the same computer and the same price as in the link in this post.

    The coupon works for any Inspiron or XPS over $600. I configured an Inspiron 660 for a total of $580 (obviously the specs aren’t as good)

    Hi,

    How about Windows 7 PRO laptops? Thanks!

  10. Jacky

    @Dan: Sorry I did not see the (bolded!) Windows 7 bullet point! I stand corrected!

  11. Ricky

    I purchased a windows 8 laptop this summer and really hate it! Is it possible to download anything or change it to Windows 7?

  12. Anonymous

    @Ricky: You can buy Windows 7. FYI i just bought my first Windows 8 laptop too and I hate it too like everyone else. But I have to say that having touchscreen makes the Windows 8 experience way easier.

  13. anon

    If I have windows 7 disk. can i buy the windows 8 comp and install windows 7?
    thanks

    I second anon, if one has a Windows 7 DVD (Full, OEM, or Dell branded Win 7 Reinstall DVD), can Windows 7 be installed with little effort?

    I’ve already installed a 128GB M4 SSD, using the Free version of Macrium Reflect for cloning. All partitions except the recovery one fit.

    Now boots at least 2x faster, even with “Fast Boot” & hibernation disabled. Apps load even faster.
