I do need a laptop this expensive. I use Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign extensively for work and most computers crawl with those programs. The 13″ screen is cheaper, but with what I do screen real estate is very important.
I currently use a desktop computer only, since my last MacBook Pro died. This makes traveling much more complicated!
