The winner, picked using Random.org’s number generator, is @westalay who tweeted,
@DansDeals @VaadKC We would love to bring the Brooklyn bbq all the way out west #KCKBBQ #DDBBQ
Thanks to everyone who participated and I hope to see some of you in Kansas whether you are competing (you might still be able to squeeze in if you haven’t registered yet) or just there for some good BBQ!

On Sunday, August 18th the Kansas City Vaad will host its 2nd annual kosher BBQ contest. And what better place to hold a BBQ contest than in the city known as the BBQ capital of the world?
I was a judge in last year’s contest and had a blast-you can read about it here. Other judges this year will include Food Network celebrity and Iron Chef America judge Simon Majumdar as well as several Kansas City BBQ Society Certified Master Judges.
Some twenty teams from around the country will compete for trophies and bragging rights for the best chicken, ribs, and brisket.
The cost of entry is $350, which includes the brisket, chicken, ribs, the use of a Weber smoker, utensils, and all of the ingredients that you request.
Except for one team that will get to enter free of charge!
Want to be that team?
Step 1: Follow @DansDeals and @VaadKC on Twitter.
Step 2: Tweet to @DansDeals and @VaadKC with the hashtags #KCKBBQ and #DDBBQ in the message and you could win a free entry to the contest.
For example your tweet can be:
@DansDeals @VaadKC We would love to take home some hardware #KCKBBQ #DDBBQ
The Twitter entry deadline will be on 07/26 at 11:59am EDT. Please tweet only enter if you are serious about attending. Limit of one tweet per person.
Already entered in the BBQ contest? If you win you will receive a refund of your entry money!
You will be responsible to get yourself or your team to Kansas City (As low as 9K Avios ;)). As teams will start smoking their meats on Saturday night the local community will be happy to arrange Shabbos hospitality for teams and their families or you are free to stay at any of the numerous local hotels.
Good luck! Have any questions? Hit the comments!
I know there is a cook-off in Memphis as well and that one you can order it online and have it shipped to you. Is there anyway to order and have it shipped from the KC BBQ?
@Joe Kramer:
Not that I’m aware of.
But there’s a lot to do in KC and it’ll definitely be worth the trip if you like BBQ!
@Dan:
Thanks! Just entered for the great experience.
Hi I just entered to how will you pick the winner
@Joe Kramer:
Good luck!
@avi:
People will be assigned a number by the order of entry and a number will be drawn using random.org.
ok how do I see what number I am or where the entry are?
@avi:
Search for #DDBBQ
The earliest entry is #1, etc.
Pretty good odds of winning this one 😀
Hmm I just did but I don’t see my entry and I did tweet it am I doing something wrong
@avi:
Did you include #DDBBQ in your tweet?
Yeah does it take time to show up?
@avi:
What is your twitter name?
@Energyisgood
@avi:
Very strange, I have no idea what’s up.
I don’t even see your tweet under @DansDeals.
Maybe try opening another twitter account and tweeting from there to see if there’s a problem with your existing account?
ok done fixed
@Dan:
Looks like great odds for all us, if it stays quiet.
@avi:
Good.
@Joe Kramer:
Indeed.
There’s only so many people that can pickup and do something like this.
But it’ll be a blast, that’s for sure!
Well I live in NY so if I will I will have to fly down there no prob, hey if its a good place to live maybe I will move there. @Dan hows the place in Kansas?
@Dan:
Do you see my tweet? Handle is jmk9989
@Joe Kramer:
Yes, if you see your tweet when you search for #DDBBQ then I will as well.
@Dan
How many people are on a team?
@Dan:
How many people on a team? I can’t find it on the site.
Up to 4 active team members. Another few are allowed if they are just hanging out.
KC DO trip????
I’m interested but there’s only a ~50% chance I’ll be able to make it.
Should I enter the raffle?
No way do I stand a chance, but it’ll be lots of fun…
Hopefully by next year I’ll be good enough to compete 🙂
@Dan:
Where do they announce the winner?
How will we now if you redraw?
@avi:
It has been confirmed. But you may still be able to register your team at the regular fee if you’d still like to join.
Is it only for people who r looking to compete in grilling and the other people that come just get to watch? Or they get to eat the food too? Or am I completely off? Can u please enlighten me how the event works. I would love to join for some good food!
@I don’t understand how the event works…:
You can definitely attend and eat good food, there will be hundreds of others doing just that!
@Dan:
Do the individual teams sell food?
@I don’t understand how the event works…:
They’re competing in “bbq,” not in “grilling.”
Thanks for getting back to me. is it free? and last question is there a certain company meat all must use (like agri…) or everyone brings they’re own?
@I don’t understand how the event works…:
It is free, though food is sold of course.
The Vaad supplies everyone with the meat a

The Vaad supplies everyone with the meat though I don’t think individual teams sell their own meat.
