Staples is waiving the $6.95 purchase fee on $200 Visa gift cards through 8/10 in-store only.
Use your Chase Ink Cash Business Card or Ink Plus card and get 5 points per dollar spent.
You can purchase as many cards as your store will allow in one transaction and the fee will be waived. Some stores may have a limit of 1 while other stores may have no limits.
If you buy 10 of the $200 Visa gift cards you’ll earn 10,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points by charging it to an Ink Cash card. If you use your points at an average value of 2 cents each, then that’s like getting $200 back!
You can use the gift cards to buy money orders at Walmart or at various grocery stores and gas stations. Just use the last 4 digits of the card as the PIN number to cash them out.
Or you can donate the gift card to charity and get a receipt for the full face value while earning 5 points per dollar.
Or you can give away a gift card as a wedding or Bar Mitzvah gift.
Or you can always use it for everyday spending while earning 5% or 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar everywhere!
anyone have experience with the chicago area stores in this regard?
No issues on the west suburbs
any limit? perhaps worth to drive there.
Sign says 1 per customer. Didn’t try to push it
thank you. if thats what the sign says then i wont bother. is a shame that my local OM puts similar limits ($400/day) on similar offers.
When you say Money Order at a grocery store, how do we do that? does that mean just cash back? What do we say to cashier?
+1
Ask for a money order and pay by gift card without showing them the gift card. In my experience you will not find a place that will actually allow you to do this and if you do they will likely catch on when attempting to swipe the 2nd gift card. Doing separate transactions will result in more/higher fees and will reduce the benefits of using the ink card in the first place.
You are best off using the gift cards for your everyday purchases and just be diligent about doing so.
I have no problem getting money orders from my local grocery stores.
So you just ask them if you can do a money order for $200?
Yes. And I pay the 88 cent fee in cash. If I ask to use multiple swipes, they ask to see the cards, and I get turned away.
What is the name of you local grocery stores, please?
It is a Kroger-owned store.
My staples store rarely has them when I go but I will definitely check
Can you by 10 at one store?
Read the post
Definitely is the store let’s you. Some stores impose the 1 card limit. And I know at least 1 Staples near me that won’t take credit cards for gift cards.
Call around to find a Staples that will sell you 10 at once and also has them in stock.
The ad for this promotion clearly says one card per customer. Don’t call, don’t ask. Not a good idea. Just go to the store. Keep under the radar.
It is a great idea. There’s nothing to keep under the radar. Either they will sell you one or they will sell you more. You are not going to catch a Staples cashier off guard. The store either imposes the Staples policy or not.You are not going to catch a Staples cashier off guard.
I would not suggest anyone drive to a Staples expecting to buy 10 or 20 cards to find out they will only sell you one. It’s not worth the gas money.
Yes, be sure to call your local store and ask them if it is OK to violate the explicit written terms of the promotion. When they say “no,” be sure to ask them to check with their manager. Also, it helps to announce loudly, “But I do this all the time!” Be sure to tell the manager the names of the clerks who sold you multiple cards. After all, you are right, and they are wrong!
The questions you ask on the phone are 1) do you have them in stock 2) is there a limit 3) who am I speaking with. When you get to the store make sure you find that clerk.
If there was an actual limit, the system would not give the discount for more than 1. So it’s not a real term of the promotion as much as a each store can enforce as they see fit .
So yes, it’s better to call than to go to the store and get into a fight with the clerk, because I wouldn’t go to buy just one card for the extra 3.5% of $200.00 . My time and gas will put me in the red. It’s just poor accounting.
Can i use A/E gift card to buy Visa gift card ?
Why not? But the plan here is to use the ink card getting 5ppd. 10 cards is 10,000 Chase points which would yield you no less than $150 of travel money through your saphire reserve. Dan even has his worth at $200.00.
What’s your amex card giving you for $2,000.00 purchase?
Local store just put a limit after the last promotion was too popular
If you are a rewards member with staples, you’ll receive 5% from staples on the GC purchase ?
no
Wrong, no rewards ever on gift cards.
Many stores have a supply behind the counter or inside the display rack, just ask.
I’ve been getting 6 or 7 at a time in a few Staples stores with no problem. Somedo enforce a limit of one.
“you can donate the gift card to charity and get a receipt for the full face value”
Dan, any particular charities you have used before in this regard?
Thanks
Sure, call your local Chabad House.
Thank you Dan for keep posting these staples deals! I have been buying these gift cards on a regular basis and pay various bills. It boasted my ultimate rewards a lot, especially after transferring the point to the Sapphire card to use them 1.5 points toward travel.
Last promotion and this promotion i have no problem in my local WH staples… the one in manhattan on 8th and 35th has a limit of 1…
Hi Dan, these posts were usually under CC posts. I look for these and almost missed this one. Any reason it was moved to Shopping Deals?
Thanks for all you do.
