Can someone please explain the appeal of these hard case suitcases? Is everyone worried about water ruining their suitcases? No pockets on the outside and less expandable. Why are these all the rage?

Just saying, I have seen designs with outside pockets. You might also have to consider the chance of cracking which is a total, permanent failure. On fabric cases a tear can be limited, here it is fatal.
