Look like it’s just basic eco tho :/

    • Dan

If you have an AA/UA credit card you don’t miss out on much.

      • Vlad

Do you have to pay with the United card in order to get the benefits?

  2. Memere

Oops never mind it’s in the post smh

“Always search one-way for 1 seat and then work the search up to the number of seats you need in order to book as many seats on sale as you can.”

This quote is always added to those kind of posts. I’m just curious what it means. Lets assume there are 3 seats on sale and I search for 5 seats at once, will it price 3 at sale and 2 at regular price? if so then whats the point of searching for 1 and work the way up?

    • Dan

No, if there are 4 seats left on sale and you search for 5, it would charge the higher price for all 5.
You can book 4 seats and then pay a more for just the 5th seat you need.

      • Abe

Wow, very interesting. When you travel with kids though I believe you can’t book them separately, they need to be on an adult reservation?

Flying to Israel in February with wife and 5 kids and struggling to book as much on the cheap as I can. When I search in chase UR it says El Al avail direct for 928 but only 2 left at this price. What’s the likelihood that prices will drop more before then?

        • Dan

Nah, I just give them adult birthdays. Doesn’t matter for anything and you can call to correct afterward if you want.

Prices and availability can change by the day. Plenty of time to wait.

          • Abe

Thanks. And 2 more while I have you if I may. On the Chase UR Portal is it also true that I should search for 1 and work it up?

Booking there with my CSR card will yield me the CSR protections?

          • Dan

            Yes and yes.

          • Abe

To verify, my question about the CSR protections was that I will book with my UR points, while logged in on the CSR card. Still offers the protections even though nothing will be charged to the card a all?

          • Jon

What about sitting with kids on these basic economy fares? I have 3 year olds…even with a card like AA Red Aviator, you don’t get to pick your seats. Do people just take the risk?

          • Dan

You can pay to pick your seats afterward.

But based on experience, nobody wants to sit next to your 3 year old. You’ll have no problems figuring things out at the gate or on the plane.

          • Abe

An idea that may work is to book an isle seat in the back. chances are that no one will rush to book a middle seat in the back, thus you will likely be allowed to take the car seat on board and have a free seat for him

Dying – most dates are no longer $68

Come on Dan. You’ve never visited us here

    • Dan

      I most certainly have 🙂

Also, sales from EWR don’t help me in CLE 😀

If you book a round trip flight for an adult and a lap infant but later decide not to bring the infant along, does the while itinerary get cancelled?

  7. MR

    Thanks Dan !

Booked Round trip for 2 on A”A, Nonstop for 23k total !

  8. dhammer53

FYI, car rentals have much higher fees here than other airports. You may want to consider renting off-airport.

Booked a round trip for my wife and I 1/19-1/21 for 15,440 UR points each. Dates didn’t work perfectly for me so had to pay a little more but still saved me $ as I was looking at flights at an even higher price prior to seeing the post.. Perfect timing! Thanks Dan!!

Do I get the free bag benefit when booking through UR if I pay a portion on my Chase United Mileage Plus CC?

      • fjdo

Huh? I got free bag when did this in the past. And free carry-on as well

  11. Yos

Thank you! Just booked my ticket using AA miles…
Paid using 5,000AA miles and $5.60 for tax. Even got to choose my own seats :))
