I ran several DansDeals seminars during Pesach 2017 at the amazing Pesach on the Mountain program in Whistler where Avi Liberman was working as a comedian and told him about Etihad’s apartment first (shower) class. He flew to Amman without buying a connecting flight from Amman to Tel Aviv and still managed to survive. 😀

I just flew business from tlv to jfk via Amman. The “kosher meal” was a joke. For lunch we got 2 cucumbers and some smoked salmon. Dinner was an apple, orange and banana with a piece of cake. There was no kosher certificate or labels anywhere so I skipped the cake. The flight attendant confirmed this is their standard kosher meal.
And how much better do you think the kosher meal on “western” airlines are? Is that worth to have to take out a mortgage for their flights? Royal Jordanian as of now for Tishrei leavning JFK on Sep 20 and returning Oct 6 is $608 on RJ’s direct website, while on El Al flying direct it is for $1200!!! Money does not grow on trees.
Dan,
Nothing to do with this but Norse Atlantic just launched flights USA to OSL, with JFK to OSL for less than 250 r/t
Yes, officially they “tolerate” us. $$$ makes for strange bedfellows. But I wouldn’t take a chance for that one-in-a-thousand that a “deranged” meshugana who would love killing a Jew. Remember the “deranged” soldier that killed the seven girls? Officially he was put on trial, and the king even came to menachem the families, but three different times it was brought up in the Parliment to vote on letting him go. He sat for a few years and then was quietly let go. After all he “only” killed Jews.
Check my Tfilin? confiscate passport? Is a $200 saving worth it? Give them parnasah?
Your thoughts aren’t wrong, but with your logic, how should one feel traveling through other Jew-hating nations? I’m thinking of France, Poland, Germany, Russia. Truthfully, it’s safest to fly direct, or connect through a tolerable nation like Canada or the UK.
Your logic is correct. I WON’T fly Russian or Ukrainian (more for the fear of getting shot down – you see their track record on human rights). Do you remember what happened a couple of years ago with a stopover in Turkey. All the Jews (Israelis and Jewish-looking people) were hearded into a room and ordered to strip, men, women, and children? Just so Erdogan wanted to make a political statement. For a $200 savings and a second piece of luggage? No, not me.
And there is a differece of between a country that has a bunch of antisemites and an openely antisemetic one.
My father has a saying: “az me geht glach, falt mehn. Vahr voos geht mehn kroom?
when did that happen?????????? sounds like garbage to me………
It did indeed happen, my friend was on that flight. I hear Maier’s point and there are many that share these very concerns. However, there are some who just plain and Simply can’t afford it otherwise. It’s not always a $200 difference sometimes it’s far more substantial. Additionally, with a family of many kids – God bless, making ends meet with a Kolel budget, taking a flight like this one (when necessary) can be a make it or break it. That is when the remote chance that any of these things might happen seem to be batel beshishim- or be’Elef. I’m sure no one would like to support these antisemites, but if that’s the only way to make it to my brothers wedding would I not do so in principle?
Remember it very clearly. It was swept under the rug. Do some research, you’ll find it.
Can I drive from Amman Airport to Jerusalem (less than 2 hr drive) instead of waiting the 7hr stop over- is it safe?? Does anyone have experience doing this?
If you’re booking a roundtrip back to the US , you’ll loose your last leg of the trip if you don’t take the flight to TLV
I do believe people take a taxi (if they’re flying one way or round trip but vice versa)
some say its with american airlines direct? is that false?
I just flew RJ with my family & it looked like they were going out of their way to please the Jews on the flight.
The only downside was the security in Amman took out & inspected every single tefillin from every single person on my flight. They also wanted me to remove my kippah when passing the metal detector, but other than that we had a very very nice flight.
They were just doing the computer check to make sure everyone’s tefillin was kosher!
Security is terrible. That have asked my wife to remove her wig as well. We felt terrible !!
Next time have her wear a baseball hat on top of her wig then they won’t think it’s a wig and they’ll just tell her to take off the hat lol
@dan
I know this is off topic but why is El Al posting ads encouraging flying to Israel for pride month June 2022 they couldn’t find anything else nice about Israel
Welcome to 2022….
Found ORD-TLV for $560 (short layover) Sept13-Sept 22 via Skyscanner.
Probably fly by night agency with no support.
I’m not one to say Arab countries are unsafe for Jews, I’ve been to 2+ Muslim countries and i had a great time! Happens to be that a friend of mine flew RJ to Israel and joined a minyan for mincha in the airport, after which the airport security confiscated the Shliach Tzibor’s passport. Everyone in the minyan said they wouldn’t board their flight unless the passport was returned, and it was : )
Just a random story but i would still fly Arab airlines
I guess next time do heicha kedusha lol
Can you leave the airport in Jordan as a frum family?
Keep in mind they charge for a visa on arrival. No issue for US citizens to get one but gotta pay
How much does a Visa cost? With a 7hr stopover, any suggestions on where to go?
Amman, Dead Sea (hotels cheaper on the Jordanian side but no mehadrin restaurants! 🙂 )
Yes
Yes, my son just traveled with them and it is all safe
Just flew through royal jordanian for pesach with a family of little kids, they were extremely friendly and accommodating and the airport felt totally safe…..on the way home, there were more heimishe families then not on the flight. definitely recommend it!
definitely not any more then in Heathrow airport or airports in Paris…
Have there not been any incidences in the airport against Yiddin?
I flew through Ammann b4 covid and it was perfectly safe and I felt perfectly comfortable (I’m male) When Avi said managed to survive he was talking about crossing the land border. you can simply stay in the airport and fly to ben Gurion. Interestingly I recently flew United to Israel and I sat near Palestinians both ways… Really nice guys
Even by land would be fine but I’d probably wear a baseball hat in case u come across a crazy person.
He “managed to survive”. Cost vs Risk analysis does not justify the cost savings.
Huh?
Was there any incident with an Israeli or foreign Jew flying RJ?
Israelis (including frum ones) regularly flew RJ to get to Asian countries pre-covid.
Why not throw in some more qualifiers like the month, day, and year; maybe the weather and time of sunset that day?
It’s a joke to think that there are no Jordanian government or other secured professional employees that want to kill Jews.
It’s a joke.
Is this airline a safe airline to fly?
Yes
How do you determine whether it’s “perfectly safe” for a Frum individual to fly there? How do you take that kind of responsiblity, have you spoken with security experts or are you basing on statistics? Truly curious.
Number of incidents = Safety.
What other way do you know. (statistics is not a bad word…)
Would you then recommend walking the South Side of Chicago at night, or BedStuy back in the day, even though the odds are you will not be attacked? Something can be inherently not recommended due to other factors.
Yes, based on all the above.
Feel free to reach out to Shloime too if you’d like:

Now how do I get my wife comfortable flying with them?!
Give her a few melatonin so she sleeps through it?
ROFL
@Dan when are the Lag BaOmer deals coming? 🙂
Too much pent up demand.
