CLEAR Membership Signup

If you have an AMEX Platinum Card or AMEX Business Platinum Card you can get a $179 annual statement credit for CLEAR spending. If you have an AMEX Green card you also can get a $100 annual statement credit for CLEAR spending.

You can also check your AMEX Offers to see if you’re targeted for a $179 refund on a single purchase of CLEAR through 10/30/21. DDF members have reported seeing this offer on their Gold, Marriott, and Hilton cards.

You can set your membership not to auto-renew.

To see if you have AMEX offers in your account just login to your AMEX account, click on any of your cards to go the activity page, click on “AMEX Offers For You,” and save the offer to your account.

Note that there is a limit of 100 available AMEX Offers on a card at given time. If you have 100 offers, add AMEX Offers to your card and refresh the screen and you will get more offer to choose from!

Always check all primary and secondary card offers, as secondary cards will often have offers that the primary card does not.

Offers can fill up at any time, so be sure to save them to your account today!

Note that while AMEX Platinum cardholders can get CLEAR for a family member for free, that won’t work with this offer. That’s because United and Delta non-elite members can enroll in CLEAR for $119/year. United and Delta cardholders and mid-tier elite members can enroll in CLEAR for $109/year. A CLEAR member can add up to 3 adults for just $50-$60 each, so an AMEX Platinum cardholder can join as a Delta or United member, add a 2nd adult, and all charges will be reimbursed by AMEX every year. However that won’t work with this AMEX Offer as the family member charge will be billed separately and the AMEX Offer only covers a single purchase.

Kids under 18 can go with their parents for free without a membership or biometrics required.

CLEAR has also been very generous in handing out extensions during the pandemic. I’ve received 3 of the 3 month extensions just for the asking!

PreCheck is great, but CLEAR is amazing.

PreCheck costs $85 for 5 years (it’s also included for free with the excellent Global Entry, which costs $100 for 5 years) and allows you to keep your shoes, belt, and jacket on, and your laptop in your bag. You get to go through metal detectors rather than assuming the position. Adults that have PreCheck can also bring their kids with them, even if their kids don’t have PreCheck.

PreCheck and Global Entry are free with cards like the Chase Sapphire ReserveChase United ExplorerChase United Club Infinite CardCapital One Spark Miles BusinessCapital One Venture, AMEX Business Platinum Card, AMEX Platinum CardCiti PrestigeCiti Executive AAdvantage, Chase IHG PremierMarriott Bonvoy BrilliantDelta Platinum Business AMEX, Delta Reserve Business AMEXDelta Platinum AMEXDelta Reserve AMEX, and more.

Once upon a time, PreCheck lines were always short, but that’s no longer a guarantee. With PreCheck these days you may be able to walk right up to security or you may need to wait 20 minutes.

CLEAR allows you to skip to the front of the line. If you have PreCheck you can skip to the front of the PreCheck line and if you don’t have PreCheck you can skip to the front of the regular line.

You don’t need to take out your ID either, your fingerprint or eye act as your ID.

The dependability that skipping the line gives you is simply amazing. It means I can leave my house 55 minutes before a flight and know that I won’t miss my flight out of CLE. When I’m with my family I’ll leave plenty of time and enjoy the airport lounge, but if I’m solo, the less wasted time in the airport is always a win.

CLEAR also works for sports stadiums. I’ve used it to skip the line at Progressive Field, which is a nice bonus on top of skipping the lines at the airport.

A full list of CLEAR locations can be found here.

In NYC you can use CLEAR at LaGuardia, JFK, Newark, Westchester County, Citi Field, Yankee Stadium, and Madison Square Garden.

Normal pricing for CLEAR is $179/year, but if you link your Delta or United mileage number you will pay $119/year.

If you have a Chase United Explorer card, United Quest Card, United Business Card, Chase United Club Infinite Card Card, United Business Club Card, Delta Business GoldDelta Business PlatinumDelta Business ReserveDelta Consumer GoldDelta Consumer Platinumor Delta Consumer Reserve you can pay $109/year.

Delta and United Silver/Gold/Platinum elites also pay $109/year.

Delta Diamond/360 and United 1K/Global Services elites get CLEAR for free!

A CLEAR member can add up to 3 adults for just $50 each.

CLEAR isn’t cheap, but if it helps you make a flight that you would otherwise miss due to a long line then it will be worth its weight in gold.

Do you have CLEAR and how has your experience been with it?

if I have TSA pre, is there any way to get CLEAR without going to a CLEAR location?

  2. Freebie

    @dan
i booked united flights with Chase United Explorer. Will i get free pre check automatically?

  3. 118

Does the charge have to post before the offer expires? Or as long as it is charged before it is ok?

  4. 118

“A CLEAR member can add up to 3 adults for just $50 each.” Think it is $60

I have 2 years to get an appointment with global entry to renew it, I wanted a zoom appointment but there are none available for the next few years. Any way to get a zoom interview instead of physically going?

  6. Menachem

I never got the credit back from amex

  7. Dals

Can I get this offer on the blue cashback?

  8. thewiz23

can you pre pay for 2 years in a row?

  9. Chala

When does the membership start? When you enroll and pay online or not until enrollment is completed at the airport?

  10. Avrohom

How do I renew my global entry? Do I need to go back to he airport?

  11. Michael

Is there a max # of Amex offers can you accept at one time? If so, how many?

  12. dave

you can also take advantage of the 2 month free trial, the amex offer expires in october, so sign up through the trial link.

  13. MeirS

When is it $50 and when is it $60 to add a family member?

  14. Sam

At the rate they giving away CLEAR it might be the new pre check in no time.

  15. SrulieT

What about platinum additional card holders?

  16. Neno

I got the offer and foolishly used it to renew my existing dormant Clear membership for me only at $179. Then on the same day, I read Dan’s post about getting a discounted rate by linking Clear with United Mileage.

I was able to cancel the $179 renewal, then purchase discounted $109 renewal for me plus added one family member for $60.

Since then I am showing a $60 total cost after all refunds and credits posted so far (almost immediately)!
I hope that the remaining $60 credit will post soon.

  17. TybeeDawg

Mine was under benefits, not offers. You only need to have your card on your Clear account as the billing account.

  18. Adam

This waters down the new consumer platinum benefits… now that other cards are also getting clear for free (even if for only a year) it just makes me more upset they increased the fee with marginal improvement of the card….

  19. Slim

I paid with my Amex Business platinum on 4/29 $229 via auto pay
the whole post seems a bit confusing. I can get 2 adults for free with amex business platinum but if I signup as a delta member then I can get 3 more adults for 150-180?

  20. S

Targeted on my Amex gold consumer card

  21. Moe

CLEAR Customer Service has really gone down hill. They used to have an amazing Chat option which they now don’t. The only way to get in touch with them is email or phone with long waits. Currently on hold because Clear charged my an older Amex that was on file even though I updated to the newer Amex (with the free Clear offer) before renewing. If you’re renewing be careful.

    • Moe

UPDATE: I SPOKE TO CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY SAID IF YOU’RE RENEWING (“REACTIVATING”) YOUR PREVIOUS MEMBERSHIP USING A NEW CARD IT TAKES UPTO 24HRS FOR THE NEW CARD TO BE SAVED IN THEIR SYSTEM EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE IT SAVES IMMEDIATELY. THEY WERE ABLE TO REFUND ME AND THEN I’LL USE THE CORRECT CARD TOMORROW WHEN THE SYSTEM UPDATES.

  22. Gershon

I linked my Delta number to my existing Clear account to get the $119/yr pricing. It says successfully linked and shows my number after 24 hours, but is still showing the $179 price? Anyone else having this issue?

      • Jumbo

I relinked with United and it showed the $119 pricing immediately. Maybe it is a bug with Delta linking to existing accounts?

  23. Jeremiah

If I sign up for clear is there any reason to get tsa pre afterwards?

    • TybeeDawg

Yes! If you don’t have TSA Pre then you get to the front of the general line. If you have TSA Pre then you get to the front of that line. Faster through security!

    • Dan

Yes, they do completely different things.
There are CLEAR lines for regular security and CLEAR lines for Pre-check.

  24. Concerned

Should I be scared to give a nongovernmental agency my biometric data?

    • Dan

I gave it. They’re part owned by Delta and United.

  25. Ariella

I had also gotten a 3 month extension by asking.
