@yaakov: typically the timer starts when you are approved, not when you receive the card (or activate it). AMEX should be able to tell you the actual date, but I would play it exceedingly safe and hit the requirement well in advance.

Dan random question, there was a promo for spg amex a few months ago to get 30000 points if you spend 5000 in 3 months. Anyway, does that 3 momnths begin from when you get approved or does it only start from when you activate the card?
