Update: The Nuvi 260W can still be had for $99.99, here’s how:
Look on the right-hand side of the 260W page for “more buying options” and locate Amazon.com for $99.99 and then add it to your cart!
If you’re looking for a bargain GPS look no further!
Both of these GPS units have text-to-speech which means that they will speak street names and they both have 4.3″ widescreen displays.
Garmin Nuvi 260W-$99.99 Shipped
Garmin Nuvi 285WT-$119.99 Shipped
The 285WT has the same features as the 260W, but also has bluetooth for hands free calling, and a free 3 month MSN Direct traffic subscription. (After the 3 months the cost for the optional MSN service is $50/year. MSN Direct will not function after 01/01/12.)
Any info on the Garmin 1490t?
Does it work well?
Thanks!
thanks. any good deals on GPS with multi destiantion routing?
@auntiemus:
Text to speach is- VERY important. It means the GPS will speak ‘Turn left on Main Street’ as apposed to just saying ‘turn left’.
Bluetooth-I got a GPS with this feature but never used it. To use it on a consistent basis means turning on the device every time you get in your car. I only turn it on when I am going somewhere unfamiliar, so I wanted to buy a bluetooth earpiece anyway.
Lane assist is a helpful feature. When you are on a highway and there are 5 lanes, and you need to be in the 3rd lane, it will display a little diagram showing exactly which lane to be in. (If there is no lane assist, it will merely speak the name of the direction (‘Veer right toward **** Street’) and you need to check the sign to confirm which lane to be in.
Multi Destination Routing-Also a handy feature but not neccesary. With it, you can program in several places and have it guide you from place to place. Without it, you can only enter 2 locations, then it will take you to your first, then final destination and then you need to stop and program in the next place to go.
help! which gps do i need?
text to speech,
bluetooth.
what is lane assist, is it necessary?
same with multi destination routing…
@chaim:
Israel maps just became available last week for Nuvi’s.
They are $100:

Do these GPS have an option of Israeli maps?
