Here’s how it works.
For a limited time the Amazon Kindle , the Kindle Paperwhite, and the Kindle Fire HD are $20 off the list price and the Kindle Fire HDX is $30 off the list price. The 16GB Kindle Fire HD is $40 off list price. This promotion is open to all.
Amazon gives price adjustments within 7 days, so by chatting with Amazon reps, people have been able to get a refund due to the “price drop” that happened today off of the list price. Apparently the adjustments are being made despite the $50 or $75 targeted discounts that people got off of the list price.
In other words the Kindle’s list price is $69 and targeted people got $50 off, dropping the price to $19. Today it is $49 for all. What people are reporting is that they have been getting Amazon chat reps to make a $20 adjustment to match the price drop of $69 to $49. Effectively making the price they paid negative $1.
Anyway, YMMV of course. But that’s one crazy price adjustment policy. Post a comment if you try for an adjustment.

Amazon were JERKS. They know that some of these deals were honored by they refuse to honor mine even though they acknowledge that it was their mistake. I told them how misleading this deal was to just change the purchase price a few days later. Very dissatisfied.

I bought the paperwhite (no ad version) for $69 on Friday, they just issued a refund of $20 that brought it down to $49.
they keep transfer me to the kindle dep.
I bought the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite for $19 and $44. I got on Amazon chat and got the $20 discount refunded for both of them. Make sure you do not get transferred to the Kindle team. I got the first refund immediately but then it took me a few tries to get the second refund.
I had to try 4 unsuccessful chats (and one unsuccessful phone call).. Finally a few hrs later (at 530am ) chatted with one rep and they gave me $20 back immediately on the Paper White,, then did separate chat and got the $20 bak on the Kindle. I guess gotta keep trying.

I also got just the Kindle for $19 and haven’t called CS for an adjustment yet. Has anyone heard of Amazon cancelling people’s accounts for too many refunds/returns, etc.? While everyone loves a good deal, I think too many of these can possibly get your account closed. I’m wondering if Dan can do an article further about this?

I was looking for something to use mainly for seforim but some basic emailing. I would specifically want to maintain tzuras hadaf like hebrewbooks.org. I was thinking of getting a cheap android tablet-they have them on amazon in the $50 range. Would the regular kindle or paperwhite work for that or would I need the android capabilities of the HD? Is there an advantage to the kindle hd over the android tablets? It seems that it would be a bit more complicated to get apps on the kindle since it doesn’t have google play.

I just tried that for my Mom and we were turned down with the script “Sometimes other websites (dansdeals, lol) post amazon promotions without specifying….. Blah blah blah. They are beinf told not to honor this, I think you got lucky before all of the dansdealers bombarded them with complaints.
