It also has lane assist which shows you which lane you should be in with road signs.

Also on sale in the Nuvi 285WT with a 9 month MSN subscription for $124.99 with free 2 day shipping.
my garmin went nuts on me after 18 months. I loved it and would only buy a garmin after first having a magellan, but I have a theory that they program them to die after 12-18 mths.
@jay: I had the same problem and had to go into the options and turn off “avoid traffic” option. Now its not taking me backwards from NYC to Jersey (it told me to take the holland tunnel when I was in northern Manhattan!!!
Am I the only person who mutes the gps and follows the screen( I find the voice annoying)? BTW I have the 855 and am pretty satisfied. Voice commands work well although it has frozen on me and cannot be shut off entirely so the battery drains. Overall as a long time nuvi user (thanks dan!) I’d reccomend the 855.
@Evan:
The 285WT definitely had text to speech.
The 800 series has voice commends.
@zalmanmn:
No they’re very different. The 855 has voice command, the 285 does not.
The 255WT has text to speech. The problem is that the GPS gives directions that would avoid areas with traffic, and it was not correct. It always tells me to avoid the belt on the way to JFK even when the Belt is clear.
dan
are you saying the 285 is better then this 855?
@Dan Are you sure the 285wt has text to speech? I think its only the 800 series.
@jay: Why did you buy a gps without text to speech?
I have the 255wt with lifetime traffic, and from the experiences I have using it, I am not thrilled with it.
I just ordered the 285wt thanks Dan.
How does this compare with the 765?
Dan, on Black Friday you compared 4 models with the 765 being the best(and most expensive). So how is it compared to this 855?
Thanks
i you have prime they’ll give you $10 off.
Traffic is a cute feature on the 265WT, but its far from perfect and I don’t think it’s worth a $40 premium over the 285WT. If you don’t want the voice command of the 855 go for the 285WT.
@Evan: I have it and I think its a better deal. It has free traffic, and personally, I’m not crazy over electronics with voice commands. They don’t usually work that well! ZCheck out some previous posts about the 265 WT
Have you heard anything about the Nuvi 265WT. I wanted your opinion because that has lifetime traffic as opposed to the 285 which has only 9 months.
Thanks.
