@Steve, got something similar, with gapcash being awarded based on pre-discount, pre-tax total (this is according to the terms of gapcash, which state that it’s pre-discount for online transactions but post-discount for in-store transactions). So my $53 post-tax purchase, which was $103 pre-discount, earned $50 gap cash.
Note that gap cash isn’t quite as good as cash, since it’s actually $25 off $50 or $50 off $100 (etc.) and you can’t combine it with most other promotions.
Just used this code by phone after the 11:59 pm expiration. Something pretty cool took place. The rep had the leverage to apply code but gap cash was earned on the precode balance. So, purchased $127 of merchandise and received $125 gapcash.

@Anonymous: If you give me $30 in rewards I can also buy something and pay $0 🙂 Gap rewards are money. Like a gift card. And Gap cash that you earn is just a small future discount.
I just purchased two pairs of pants from the gap. original price. about $85. Using the 51% coupon, brought the price down to about $44 (after tax).
I had $30 in gap coupons from my gap card, that brought the price down to $14.
After the purchase, i received an e-mail form gap informing me that I earned $25 in Gap Cash.
total cost of 2 pairs of pants…..negative $11.
Does this work in store?
