@Eitan: Indeed, it hasn’t been refreshed by Apple since then.
@Dan, maybe would you like to switch your post around, it hurts to see people still buying this computer 😉
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
If I can recommend to you NOT TO BUY this laptop.
I have owned it and am now a proud owner of the newer version. It will be discontinued at the end of the year, and therefore will loose a lot of value.
It is a big laptop, still using a hard drive (hard drives fail on average every 5 years, SSD every 10) that does present some issues if you overload it (me as well as a few friends had to get our hard drives replaced).
If you are ready to put in a little extra I would recommend the new MacBook Pro.
If you want something for the same price, go with a MacBook Air. You might see that the processor lists a slower speed, but they are newer, making them just as powerful. I have owned one and was able to do photo/video editing without any problems or lag. As of the storage space, what is the point of getting 500gb if you might loose all your files? Just get a USB 3.0 128gb on Amazon for $40! The speeds are incredible when paired with an SSD. (I am talking about seconds).
Either way, to find the lowest prices, go to apple insider.com (not affiliated, I am a college student!) and search for mac deals, and also look at their price guides.
Finally, I would recommend to not hold onto a laptop for too long, try to sell on craigslist every other year and get a new one (before it looses too much value), Apple time machine makes the process of changing laptop easy and painless. I have managed to move from one laptop to the next by getting them on sale and selling it for at most a $100 loss.
